Online Learning is hot right now. If you’re not aware of what online learning is, it’s basically a virtual class that you watch online. There are many universities out there (I’ll go over some later) that have multiple video lessons and tests to help you learn at your own pace. The best part about this is that the classes are free! Some schools even offer free graduate degrees for those who want to go further in their education!
I’m not sure how I feel about the whole “online learning” thing, but I do know one thing: it’s growing rapidly, and will continue to grow as time goes on. It’s also better than traditional learning in my opinion because if you don’t get something from one lecture or video lesson, then chances are, there may be another lesson on YouTube with a different teacher explaining the same topic differently which can really help you understand what was taught in the first place! This happens all of the time with me when studying for exams too! My lectures were terrible at explaining things sometimes so I would have to look up Youtube videos just to understand a concept better than how they explained it (and they were good teachers). Videos always work much better than textbooks too; textbooks always oversimplify things and make them seem extremely easy (like algebra. I took online courses and they still came up with a new way to teach me algebra, but apparently it makes sense and works. I can’t explain it).
This isn’t the only thing that I like about online learning either. Another great thing about online learning is that if you want to get things done fast (like me), then online courses are perfect for you! There’s not much time wasted in class and assignments are usually given out on a weekly basis or every few weeks! The best part is that if you don’t want to do it at home, there’s always study groups too! But since I live in Florida, my friends aren’t exactly what I’d call “nerdy”. Still though, even if they were nerdy enough to take an online course (which would be really hard considering how many people do this), we would have gotten together a couple of times and studied anyhow! That’s just how my friends and family are. We’ll always go out together no matter what. It doesn’t matter where we go or what we’re doing as long as we’re all together having fun; especially when studying for something like school exams or homework assignments.
Online Learning has some cons though. My biggest problem with online learning is that you could be studying from anywhere in the world and there’s a chance that your Internet connection may not work. I know this because I’ve had it happen to me before! I was working on an online homework assignment and the page kept loading forever. It took forever, so much so that I almost thought my computer froze! But then it loaded and so did a bunch of popups saying “You’re infected!”. This happened while we were at my friend’s house, but luckily their WiFi worked fine (but how many people have friends who get viruses on their computers? Do you even use Wi-Fi?). Another thing that happened one time was when we were studying for an exam at school after school got out. We were all sitting around outside talking while some of us were doing our homework assignments when suddenly the WiFi went out because someone forgot to pay the bill again! So if you’re still using traditional learning methods, then make sure your Internet connection works or else you’ll have no Internet access which can really screw with your studies sometimes.
Free Online Courses
This is something for those of you who are looking for free online courses rather than just online learners; not everyone has done this yet (or knows about it) so this might help someone in need: go to coursera.
In conclusion, online learning is definitely worth a try if you’ve never tried it before. If you don’t like it, then it’s not for you. But if you do like it, then go for it! I haven’t gone to college yet so I haven’t had much experience with this yet (except for the brief times that I have taken online courses and they were amazing). There are lots of other resources out there too like Khan Academy and Coursera that offer free courses that are great too! So once again, my opinion on this subject is: “Online Learning: The Next big thing.”
