Frankincense is a natural resin that is earned from the Boswellia tree, which is a species that grows in the Middle East, Africa, and India. The market for frankincense is growing with a great pace, and the reason for this is the rising demand for natural and organic products in personal care, aromatherapy, and traditional medicine. Consumer awareness of the benefits of the product is growing rapidly, thus leading to the promotion of its use as a source of cosmetic products due to its nature as anti-inflammatory, relaxation and skincare properties.
Key Growth Drivers and Opportunities
Rising Demand for Natural and Organic Products: The rising need for natural and organic products is the main reason behind the increase in the market of frankincense resin and essential oil as the most suitable materials for skin care, health and aromatherapy with a clean label. Rapid plant-based solutions are highly preferred by consumers which result in the strengthening of the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and stress-maintenance properties of frankincense. The growing consumer preference for the use of frankincense in beauty and health products such as skincare serums, lotions, supplements, and aromatherapy mixtures has led to an increase in sales volumes, expansion in supply chains, and producers investing in permanent farming to meet the demand.
Challenges
The Frankincense Market has to operate under various constraints such as the excessive collection of Boswellia trees that not only puts the sustainable supply of the product at risk but also changes the consistency of the product. Besides, the market’s reliance on a few areas such as Somalia, Oman, and Yemen makes it vulnerable to political and climate-related hazards. One of the factors that limits the market is confined awareness of qualitatively graded standards concerning quality, where competitors in the form of synthetics and unstable prices are also considered. This in turn impedes market expansion and acceptance by those consumers.
Innovation and Expansion

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Ibrahim Said Al Kharusi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage Affairs, and Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Amouage’s Board of Directors Chairman.
Inventive Sparks, Expanding Markets
One of the main concerns for manufacturers of Frankincense is sustainable sourcing, expanding the range of products, developing their e-commerce business, and obtaining certifications to increase customer trust, market share, and business growth.
