A new study revealed that Idaho has the second-highest rate of spousal aggravated assault relative to its population during November (2020-2024), across the U.S.
The research conducted by personal injury law firm Simmrin Law Group analyzed data from the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer database (2020–2024). The study measured and ranked each state based on the number of aggravated assaults by spouse during November per million residents to identify which states face the greatest domestic violence challenges during the Thanksgiving holiday period.
Idaho ranks second with an annual average spousal assault rate of 15.02 per million residents during November, 92% higher than the national average of 7.83. The Gem State recorded an average of 29 spousal aggravated assaults among a population of 1,931,128. The state experienced its peak in 2024 with 38 assaults, and its lowest in 2021 with 22 incidents.
Looking at the study, a spokesperson from Simmrin Law Group commented:
“According to the study, states like Idaho reported some of the highest rates of spousal aggravated assault during November.
“The study reveals concerning trends in domestic violence across several states during one of the most stressful family gathering periods of the year. High rates in areas with both large and small populations demonstrate that this is a widespread challenge that transcends state size.
“These results highlight the urgent need for enhanced domestic violence prevention measures, community awareness campaigns, and law enforcement resources to protect victims and reduce incidents during the Thanksgiving holiday period.”
The study was conducted by Simmrin Law Group, an experienced personal injury law firm dedicated to protecting clients’ rights and maximizing claim value.
