Fulcrum HR Consulting CEO Kelly Kubicek has been observing the world of HR for many years. Early on in those years, she often saw a human-centered field that felt unwelcoming, opaque, and exclusive.
But thanks to her efforts and many other like-minded HR experts, the industry has shifted, and today its landscape is more aware, diverse, friendly, and transparent.
Kubicek believes that being asked to visit the HR department shouldn’t feel like a punishment; it should be a place where managers and employees alike can get support, be transparent with any issues, and proactively work toward solutions — not penalizations.
The Human Touch
To Kubicek, an industry focused on people and their specialized skills should help employees rather than hinder them. She believes that employees should also take on more of a role with accountability, and human relations offices should be places that can help them with their career journeys.
“I love it when I see employees that are self-aware and self-accountable. That helps us to do our jobs better and offer more varied kinds of resources and support than when we are constantly called in only to put out fires,” Kubicek said.
As a true industry expert, the founder is known for high-level human capital skills, excellent problem-solving, and innovative strategies that drive retention efforts and keep employees happy and productive.
Getting Results
Her excellent results and track record have made her one of the industry’s thought leaders and an extremely sought-after HR consultant. Her services include complete updates for companies looking to overhaul their HR departments, and she works across an ever-expanding scope of industries.
Kubicek prides herself on leaving each client with a more results-driven, contemporary, and efficient HR department, which results in companies being better able to attract and retain an industry’s best talent in an ever-more-competitive career market.
In return, her clients praise her work, stating that after working with Kubicek, they can outperform their competitors in a significant way. They especially appreciate her time-saving techniques, productivity hacks, retention increasing initiatives, focused recruiting strategies, and innovative ROI practices.
Among her companies most in-demand skills are outsourcing, training, and development. But she also offers bespoke services and can solve nearly any new or ongoing HR issues damaging company bottom lines.
Kelly’s HR Journey
The HR expert and company co-founder’s success story is inspiring, but she warns others not to consider it an easy journey. Behind the scenes, she has dealt with many health issues, undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, endured many weeks of chemotherapy, and nursed herself into a better and healthier place.
As she was going through this, she also had to deliver for every client at the level they were used to. She shared this not to gain sympathy but as an example of how she approaches HR.
“You never know what someone else is going through, so treat them with care, respect, and an open mind. You might be surprised by what your team shares with you when you allow for transparency. It truly lays the groundwork for teams to break through their own glass ceiling into unknown levels of potential,” she said. This is the basis for her belief in approaching HR from a place of empathy and understanding.
Despite her health struggles, her career continued its upward trajectory, and she joined the influential, invite-only Forbes Council. This organization lets top-level executives, founders, and entrepreneurs network, collaborate, and share knowledge. Through the council, Kubicek has already published a handful of thought-provoking HR articles that got many likes, comments, and shares.
Public Sector Triumph
Before moving her focus to consulting for private companies, Kubicek worked for many governmental bodies, including a highly successful stint with the State of Nebraska.
She was tasked with a project that most considered impossible. Kubicek and her team needed to integrate 17 state departments — employing about 9,000 people — into one streamlined payroll system. It also needed to be done in less than a year.
She successfully completed the task and saved the state thousands of salary and administrative dollars, money that could be redirected to places where it was urgently needed.
With Kubicek’s track record and innovative approach to HR, we hope to hear more industry-changing success stories from her and her team of consultants.
