Amrita Kalsi currently works in a writer’s room on a crime and mystery series foran upcoming Canadian TV series produced by Bell Media and Blink49 Studios. Amrita’s credentials and education tell us an incredible story about this most interesting woman, and they demonstrate that she is someone who follows through on what she starts and that she is able to multi-task with ease and confidence.

A classically trained pianist, Amrita always had an ear and a love for music but it was only much later in her life that she truly delved into the creativity of combining song and story. Born and bred in Montreal, Canada, she was mesmerized by and then started to study Disney animated features and the relationship between story, music, and songs. Although her path to Hollywood’s film and television industry has been non-linear, Kalsi always had her eyes on the stars.

She officially started her professional career in the creative world as a junior editor/videographer at a Montreal-boutique production company Rebl House Inc. While there, she supported the production and editing of commercial content for notable clients such as PK Subban, Ogilvy’s, L’Oreal, Brown’s. She also used her marketing, communications, graphic design, and creative production skills to support startups and help them get their initial funding and build their marketing and communications platforms.

After three years of working in Canada, Amrita set her mind to getting into the film and television world. She moved to Los Angeles and earned an MFA in the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC as a Hollywood International Foreign Press Scholar, where she trained as a producer specializing in creative development and animated storytelling for film & TV. She supported the screen producing team behind Netflix’s AMEND – a docuseries about the 14th amendment starring Will Smith. More recently, she worked in creative development for Amazon Studios’ animation team, which produced hit shows like Invincible, Legend of Vox Machina and the Emmy-nominated The Boys Presents: Diabolical.

As busy as Amrita is on a day-to-day basis, she found the time to direct and compose the music for her award-winning film Marjanah, which, among other honors, received an honorable mention at the Women Directors Film Carnival, a Best Composer nomination at Los Angeles Independent Women Film Awards and Best Film and Best Music nomination at the Hollywood Screenings Festival.
