Why Women Want Watches

Let’s be real: there’s something hot and sexy about a woman wearing staples of the male wardrobe. The women of TikTok rejoiced and sang praises to videos of Taylor Swift covering her song, “King of My Heart,” while dressed in a boyfriend shirt and sitting in a brusque manner, emulating how most men tend to sit. It’s similar to how the “boyfriend” shirt and the “boyfriend jeans” have become a male wardrobe staple women have made their own – there’s an underlying appeal. For some, it’s because the style suits them. For others, it can be a way to experiment with your style and make it your own.

There are other wardrobe styles and staples aside from the “boyfriend shirt” and “boyfriend jeans.” This time, the women want the men’s watches. Most men’s watches have a larger diameter. They also have a more sporty aesthetic, leaning less from the glitzy aesthetic. Moreover, they provide the perfect contrast to a feminine look. The look’s not new – it’s been around and hot for a while.

In the world of men’s watches, the trend continues. Watch case sizes have grown exponentially over the last twenty (20) years. Now, women have caught the men’s watch bug, but there is a historical and valid reason for this.

The male clientele was the first watch model market, especially from a horological and mechanical perspective. The male clientele was more enthusiastic and animated about mechanics and things that were “under the hood,” – which was a big mistake. It was a miscalculation, for there was always a market for women. There were women, after all, who enjoyed horology, what it represented, its aesthetic – and had a passion for sophisticated mechanical watch movements.

When it came to watches, men’s watches had the upper hand in being more “interesting.” It was challenging to look into complications on watches for women. On the other hand, women found it hard to find watches for their wrists, so they did something else. Iconic models from Longines, Tissot, and Breuget, among others who had made their marks on history, were suddenly sitting on their wrists. Due to the demand, fortunately, more feminine technical timepieces appeared on the market.

However, the change for this needed to be faster.

More reasons why women covet watches are down below. They include:

Styling

Firstly, styling is a great reason why women want the watches. For women, watches can serve as bracelets worn with a sweater or tweed jacket – and it’s a free-for-fashion move! Wearing a man’s watch indicates a penchant for design and a certain knowledge of horology, with all its classicism and technicality.

Men’s watches have less ostentatious designs compared to women’s watches. There are no fusses – they do not have gems and stones. Rather, simplicity is what most men’s watches favor. It is also what makes women like and favor men’s watches more.

A robust design is also attractive to women – especially for everyday wear. They want the piece you slip on while hurrying to work or on an errand. It has to be glam but simple – a versatile and hardy design. In terms of marketing, it became a trend after highly publicized images of female American celebrities wearing men’s watches were released.

To the typical American woman, it reflected an aspect of her aspirations. The ladies in the photos had indulged in their love for men’s watches, and most had done so for sentimental reasons.

Feeling The Attraction

Not all women have a passion for watch brands. Rather, it depends on the kind of woman. However, if it’s a well-known brand, brand recognition is there. As a result, you should get well-known watch brands, such as Rolex and Omega, for yourself. It’s also going to affect how you carry yourself.

However, if you choose the right watch, you earn some brownie points! It’s not about the brand. The brand is a bonus; product and brand positioning come a long way. What matters, though, is the watch and its composition – and how it completes your outfit and appearance.

Watch The Appeal

Furthermore, women tend to be more detail-oriented. They tend to be better at noticing how a watch can enhance an outfit or if it makes the outfit look more terrible. For example, you’ve got a silver watch and a different silver accessory.

However, the watch is just another piece of the puzzle we call your outfit. It’s an accessory that makes you and the outfit look complete and great!

Flattering Features

Women are looking for more than simplicity and subtlety. They want the volume – and a more masculine touch to their outfits. They also look for something that can elevate their outfit: elegance, sportiness, and simplicity – with an accessory.

Men’s watches have larger faces. As a result, it may inadvertently emphasize the lines on a wrist. Although, please note it’s crucial to have a watch that can fit your wrist.

Wrapping Up

As men’s watches are better than women’s models, women find themselves drawn to the models for men’s watches. There are historical and aesthetic reasons why they want the watches. However, thanks to the initiatives of brands, more women’s watches are slowly but surely catering to this demand.
