Dhaka, Bangladesh – What began as a conversation between a group of passionate young changemakers has now become a national-level movement for mental health awareness and suicide prevention in Bangladesh. Talk Hope, founded by Md Saddam Hossain Roni, and co-founded by Md Adip, Md Faysal Kanan, Tahsin Gazi, Naimur Hossain, and Sadia Jahan Tuba, is the country’s first youth-driven initiative dedicated to supporting mental wellbeing through community-based action.
Since its establishment, Talk Hope has directly supported more than 140,000 individuals through its 24/7 volunteer-run emotional support system, on-ground campaigns, and educational outreach. The platform has been recognized for creating a safe and stigma-free space for Bangladeshi youth to speak openly about their mental health challenges.
In 2024, a proud moment arrived when Suhana Rahman Sukonna, then Chief Coordinator of the Talk Hope child chapter, was nominated for the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize — a reflection of the platform’s commitment to nurturing young mental health advocates across age groups.
A Vision Rooted in Empathy
Md Saddam Hossain Roni, Founder of Talk Hope, shared in a recent statement:
“We didn’t start this platform as experts — we started as listeners. Our strength lies in our empathy. In a country where there’s still no national mental health helpline, we knew we had to build something — not just for ourselves, but for the thousands of young people silently suffering every day. Talk Hope is not just an initiative — it’s a promise that no one has to face their darkness alone.”
Talk Hope continues to grow, reaching schools, colleges, and remote communities, while building partnerships with like-minded organizations to advocate for national mental health support. With a dedicated team of youth volunteers and a vision for a mentally healthier generation, Talk Hope is redefining what youth leadership can look like in Bangladesh.
