Redevelopment Project Combines Modern Infrastructure with Continued Resident Engagement
The Motilal Nagar redevelopment project in Mumbai is progressing as MHADA continues its efforts to transform one of the city’s oldest housing colonies into a modern residential neighborhood. Alongside infrastructure planning, the authority has emphasized that constructive dialogue with residents will continue throughout the redevelopment journey.
Covering approximately 143 acres in Goregaon West, the redevelopment ranks among India’s largest urban housing renewal projects. The initiative is expected to significantly improve housing standards while creating better civic infrastructure for existing residents.
A New Township Designed for Long-Term Urban Growth
The comprehensive redevelopment plan includes modern residential towers, upgraded internal roads, improved drainage networks, public amenities, community spaces, and well-planned open areas. Eligible residents are expected to receive new rehabilitation apartments measuring 1,600 sq. ft., replacing ageing housing with safer and more comfortable homes.
The project is expected to enhance everyday living through improved urban planning and better civic facilities while supporting Mumbai’s growing housing needs.
Resident Suggestions Support a Collaborative Planning Process
Resident associations have submitted suggestions and sought clarifications on several aspects of the redevelopment, including rehabilitation benefits and infrastructure planning. Importantly, they have reiterated their support for redevelopment while requesting continued transparency and communication during implementation.
Led by Sanjeev Jaiswal (IAS), MHADA has maintained its focus on balancing efficient project execution with stakeholder engagement. As the redevelopment advances, ongoing consultations are expected to help strengthen the project while keeping the shared objective of delivering quality housing, modern infrastructure, and sustainable urban development at the center of Mumbai’s transformation.
