A Lesson in Hospitality in the Heart of the Medina
For us, the soul of Marrakech began within the riads—traditional houses that serve as the city’s true heart. From the outside, the narrow streets of the Medina are loud and dusty, but the moment you step across the threshold of a riad, you enter a fairy tale. Inside, there are courtyards with fountains, profound silence, the aroma of mint tea, and intricate colorful mosaics. Here, the windows look only inward, toward the garden. It was within this shared intimacy and domestic warmth that we discovered the true charm of Morocco.
The Square That Never Sleeps
Jemaa el-Fnaa is the pulse of Marrakech. When we first stood there, we simply watched—excited and a bit overwhelmed by the life buzzing in every direction. Musicians, dancers, and street performers create an atmosphere so unique it is recognized as part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage. Yes, the vendors will call out to you and the cobras will dance, but if you embrace it all as one big, playful game, you’ll find yourself falling for the energy of this place. Oases of Silence and Color
To truly feel the city’s contrasts, a visit to the Majorelle Garden is a must. Created by painter Jacques Majorelle and later rescued by Yves Saint Laurent, the electric blue of the buildings against a backdrop of exotic cacti is a sight you won’t soon forget.
If you are looking for something more secluded, our hidden gem is Le Jardin Secret (The Secret Garden). Its entrance is almost invisible, but behind it lies a sense of peace that is hard to put into words. We suggest heading up to the terrace café with a cup of tea to simply watch the garden breathe—these are the moments that explain why people return here time and time again.
