Houston, Texas – July 1, 2026 – Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University (LECBU) announces that it has revoked the honorary doctorate previously conferred upon Candice Matthews following an internal review conducted by the University’s leadership.

According to the University, the review determined that the honorary recognition no longer aligned with the institution’s Christian values, mission, and standards. LECBU states that the decision was made in accordance with its policies governing honorary recognitions.

The University further states that it became aware of what it describes as a public campaign by Candice Matthews that sought to challenge or discredit the University’s accreditation and reputation. LECBU alleges that, following the revocation, social media posts referencing voodoo dolls and witchcraft were made and interpreted by the University as threatening or harmful toward private individuals. Based on these concerns, the University states it formally revoked the honorary recognition.

“As a Bible-based Christian institution, Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University remains committed to honoring individuals whose conduct reflects the values of faith, integrity, leadership, and service,” said Dr. Verna Caddie, Founder and President of Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University.

LECBU emphasizes its dedication to protecting the integrity of its institution, students, alumni, faculty, and community. The University states that it will continue to address matters affecting its mission through appropriate internal and legal channels when necessary.

Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University is an accredited Bible-based Christian institution dedicated to recognizing and empowering men and women who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in ministry, leadership, humanitarian service, education, business, and community impact.
