You may believe you’re utilising Instagram to its full potential if you’re utilising Instagram Stories, IGTV, and your regular feed to showcase a variety of content. However, you’re probably missing out on one of Instagram’s most underutilised features: Instagram fonts.
You’re talking about Instagram fonts, right? Isn’t Instagram primarily an image-sharing platform?
Instagram is, indeed, a visual platform. The quality of the images and videos you post is what draws people to your account. However, the text you publish is also important.
You want to write engaging captions and a bio that will turn casual visitors into long-term followers or even customers. Instagram fonts are an excellent way to make this text, and thus your entire Instagram profile, stand out.
What are Instagram fonts?
Instagram fonts enable users to change the font for information in their bio, name, or even posts to match their style or aesthetic. It’s a minor change, but it’s a unique way to make your Instagram bio stand out and highlight your unique style.
Here’s an example courtesy of Instagrammer flipandstyle. She uses different Instagram fonts for her bio and her name:
Designer Gavin Strange uses Instagram fonts to bring his name to life and make a distinct impression:
Instagram fonts can also be used in Instagram posts, as violinist and model Johanna Moresco did in a recent post.
She used a different font to distinguish a Jack Kerouac quote from the rest of her Instagram text:
There are hundreds of different Instagram fonts to choose from, including these examples from the Lingo Jam tool. (In a later section, we’ll go over a few tools.)
Why use Instagram fonts?
In general, all Instagram bios include the same information. Your photo, Instagram name, number of posts and followers, as well as your name, a brief bio, and that one single link that we all get on Instagram. Story Highlights, which appear as circles above your posts, can also be added.
Here’s how almost everyone’s Instagram bio looks:
That’s all we’ve got. There aren’t many opportunities to be creative. There aren’t many ways to customise your Instagram bio aside from the short bio and the picture.
This is why many people use Instagram fonts to spice up their bio! They’re entertaining and can be a unique way to express yourself.
When not to use Instagram fonts?
Instagram fonts are enjoyable to use, but they are a little casual. If your Instagram profile is more business-oriented or professional, you should probably stick with the standard Instagram font rather than getting creative.
Keep in mind that there are numerous fonts to choose from. While a cursive font may not be appropriate for your business profile, a typewriter font may suffice. Before changing your font, consider how it will reflect on your company and whether the change is on-brand for you.
How do I change the font on my Instagram bio?
You’ll need to use a third-party tool or keyboard extension to change the font in your bio.
This is how it works: Simply type your message into the Instagram font generator, choose a font, and copy and paste the text from the generator into your profile.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to changing the font in your Instagram bio using the tools we’ll look at in this post:
- Select an Instagram font tool from the list below.
- Open the tool and start typing your new bio. Just keep in mind that you are still limited to 150 characters. Using different fonts with different characters may limit the amount of information you can share.
- Choose your favourite font. Feel free to browse all of the options; some of the tools have more than 90 fonts to choose from.
- Once you’ve found the font you want, copy and paste it.
- Go to Instagram and tap the person icon in the bottom right corner. You will be directed to your Instagram profile as a result of this.
- Select “Edit profile,” which is located just below your bio.
And you’re finished! You can also use fonts on your “name.” (Just keep in mind that the name is different from your user name.)
Where can I get fonts for Instagram?
Let’s talk about font tools now that you know what Instagram fonts are and how to use them. There are numerous options available, including apps, websites, and even custom keyboards. The majority make use of Unicode, which is an international text coding system. Unicode is not supported by all devices, but it works well on iPhones and most Android devices.
Here are some of my favourite Instagram font tools for you to experiment with. It’s worth noting that you can change the font even after it’s been generated, so if you don’t like a particular emoticon or icon, you can remove it before posting.
1. Insta fonts
Looking for a simple font site that can convert regular text into a variety of interesting fonts such as emoticons, italics, and old typewriter text? You might enjoy Instafonts.
This is a browser-based Instagram font tool that has a plethora of options, including the ones listed below:
This font tool is extremely simple to use. Simply type the phrase you want to see in the top box, then scroll through the font options. There are over 90 different fonts to choose from, making it simple to create a truly unique bio.
When you find a font you like, copy it and paste it into your Instagram bio.
2. Font Changer
Font changer isn’t like other Instagram font platforms in that it’s not a copy and paste tool, but rather an entirely new keyboard for your mobile device.
This also means that you can type in different fonts directly on Instagram rather than copying and pasting the text. That makes it far more convenient to use if you enjoy experimenting with different fonts!
From their app page, here are a few font examples you can use:
Sprezz includes 50 different fonts that you can use to post on Instagram, change your bio, text, or post to other social media and chat platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, WeChat, Kik, and WhatsApp.
This app is free, but additional themes can be purchased for a fee. It works with all Apple devices that run iOS 8 or later.
3. Fonts App for Google Play
The Fonts App for Google Play, designed specifically for Android devices, offers over 140 different Instagram font options, including a variety of colours, shapes, and fun icons. Their fonts are compatible with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, as well as calendars, contacts, and task management software.
You simply type in your message, then copy and paste it to your desired location, as with the other options on this list. While the app is free, there are in-app purchases available.
4. LingoJam’s Fonts for Instagram
This is a simple Instagram font generator that runs in the browser. LingoJam’s Fonts for Instagram is incredibly simple to use and includes a plethora of fun and unique fonts and emoticons to choose from. Here are a few of their most distinctive fonts:
Simply visit their Fonts for Instagram page, type your message, and then scroll through the dozens of font options. Then, copy and paste the code into your Instagram bio. And you’re finished! It’s nice not to have to download an app or a keyboard!
The creators do note that the fonts are created using Unicode, so some phones may not support all of the characters, but they are updated on a regular basis and appear to work on the majority of devices. I had no trouble posting using a Chrome browser.
The Cool Fancy Text Generator is yet another copy and paste font generator, but it distinguishes itself by offering a wide variety of fonts such as tattoo fonts, calligraphy, web script, old English, and much more.
In addition to the fonts mentioned above, they provide several options for adding characters above and below your text, such as these:
Do you want to add your own emoticons or other symbols? They’ve got you covered there as well, with hundreds of symbols such as scissors, copyright, trademark, percentages, currency, brackets, astrological signs, math symbols, and much, much more.
Aside from all of those symbols and emoticons, Cool Symbols (the tool’s main website) also has Text Art Pictures, which are one-of-a-kind art pieces created by combining text and symbols. Of course, these will not fit in an Instagram bio, but they can be used for posts or post replies.
All of the fonts, symbols, and art images can be copied and pasted into Instagram, Facebook, WeChat, or any other platform you prefer!
6. Meta Tags Font Generator
In my humble opinion, the Meta Tags Font Generator is one of the best Instagram font generators on the market. Here are some of the reasons why I like it so much: It allows you to see how your text will appear in your Instagram bio before you copy and paste it.
This occurs on their website, so you don’t need to log in to see how your brand new font will look in your bio. They have a tonne of font options, including underline, strikethrough, all caps, circular, black pill, and “price is wrong,” which makes your text look like it’s on The Price is Right’s board.
If you’re looking for a no-nonsense font generator, this is a great place to start.
How to use Instagram fonts on Instagram Stories
Instagram Stories, as you may already be aware if you enjoy Instagram, is a feature that can be customised in a variety of ways, including the addition of filters, emoticons, music, polls, and drawings. Instagram Stories users can also select from five different fonts, including strong, modern, and typewriter.
If you want to change the fonts in your Instagram stories beyond the defaults, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the font maker of your choice from the list above.
- Fill in the blanks with the phrase you want to add to your Instagram stories, including emoticons. (Please keep in mind that tags are not yet functional.)
- Choose your favourite font.
- Copy and paste the text from your font generator into your document. Make sure to “select all” to ensure that all of your text copies are included.
- Navigate to Instagram, then to Instagram Stories.
- Select “paste” after tapping on a picture.
You’re finished! Please keep in mind that your font may appear as open boxes or strange characters on some devices. If this occurs, it is possible that your device does not yet support Unicode characters. Try a different browser or device.
Final thoughts on using Instagram fonts
Instagram fonts are a fun way to make your Instagram bio, stories, or posts stand out.
The majority of the tools are free and simple to use, so you can improve your Instagram game with just a few taps!
However, brands and users with a professional Instagram profile should reconsider using these fonts. Casual brands, such as fashion or beauty businesses, may find that using Instagram fonts is on-brand. However, more serious brands, such as a business coach or financial advisor, may find that using Instagram fonts causes their followers to disregard their company.
Above all, enjoy yourself with Instagram fonts! Experiment with different characters every week or add new ones for the holidays. The sky’s the limit when it comes to Instagram fonts!
