Home lighting should be a combination of point and surface light sources, and different levels can be considered a good design.
When planning home lighting, we should try to simulate the life trajectory of ourselves and our family members, and take into account some functional requirements that are easily overlooked.
Any meaningless lighting arrangement is a hooligan, and home lighting design should proceed from functional demands. When you want to add a light source to your home, ask yourself, “What do I need this light for?”
There are three main types of home lighting layouts: basic lighting, accent lighting, and decorative lighting.
Basic Lighting
The most common ceiling mounted light in the home is the basic lighting, which provides a comprehensive and uniform lighting for the room. Commonly used lamps include ceiling surface mounted downlight, and recessed ceiling light.
Accent Lighting
Lighting in the entry area, illuminance requirements for reading areas, illuminance and color rendering index requirements for cooking and dining areas, illuminance requirements for clothing storage areas… Like this, when you do some work or illuminate prominent areas, it is accent lighting, also known as functional lighting.
In this type of area, you must do a good job of scene prediction before purchasing lamps. Common lamps include indoor spotlight, floor lamps, table lamps, and wall lamps.
Decorative Lighting
The spotlight on the hanging paintings, the warm light string on the balcony… These enhance the change and layering of the space, and create a certain ambient atmosphere are all decorative lighting.
Common lights include light strips, light strings, wall lamps, table lamps, and spotlights.
When we are arranging home lighting, after confirming the functional requirements of the area to which we belong, it will be much simpler to choose the lighting style according to the lighting method and style.
Residential space lighting layout points
All residential lighting can be classified into three categories: ambient light (overall unified light), contour light (light strips that highlight layers), and focal light (beams that create an atmosphere).
Don’t use one light to illuminate all spaces. Residential lighting design requires a reasonable combination of various lights to meet the image of the imagined home.
Living room
The functional requirements of the living room mainly include: meeting and communication, audio-visual and reading.
The lighting in the living room only needs to illuminate the entire area evenly without being too strong. The use of scattered ambient light sources can better adjust the brightness of the space.
▼ Tips
The best led lighting for living room is magnetic track lighting, it is a lighting system including many different led lights types, such as magnetic track spotlight for accent lighting, magnetic track linear floodlight for basic lighting. It is the perfect to meet all requirements. What is more, the magnetic track lighting system includes recessed magnetic track, surface mounted magnetic track, suspended track etc.
Dining Room
The dining room lighting uses the same scattered light source as the living room, and the focus light source is set in the middle of the dining table (note that it is not in the middle of the ceiling, and the position of the dining table should be confirmed first when designing).
▼ Tips
◉ Above the dining table, a warm-colored chandelier with a light source color rendering of more than 85 and a unique shape should be selected;
◉ The chandelier is 70~80 cm higher than the table top, without blocking the other party’s sight, and the light effect is the best;
◉ The side display cabinet can be set with light strips as contour atmosphere lights;
◉ When the dining table takes into account the activities that require high brightness such as reading, the main light should choose a dimmable light source or add work lighting such as table lamps and floor lamps.
Bedroom
As a place to rest, the bedroom is dominated by a warm and quiet lighting atmosphere, and the ambient light brightness should be reduced as much as possible.
▼ Tips
◉ Use the light strip to illuminate the wall behind the head of the bed, which can make people fall asleep faster before going to bed;
◉ Wall lamps or chandeliers can be selected on both sides of the bed, so as not to occupy the space of the bedside table;
◉ The main light source is ok to use COB downlight, should be light with low illuminance and low color temperature, and a reasonable installation position of the lamps should avoid glare irritating the eyes when lying down;
◉ It is recommended to set the lights on both sides of the bed at night to avoid affecting the rest of the family when someone wakes up at night.
Kitchen
Kitchen lighting should meet the lighting functions of countertop operation, accessing objects in cabinets and cleaning the ground. It is the brightest place in the entire residence and needs to be set with brighter ambient light.
▼ Tips
◉ The lighting of the main light source should use lamps with a color rendering of more than 90, and the color of food is more realistic;
◉ All kitchen lighting uses white light, too warm or too cold will affect the judgment of ingredients;
◉ When the countertop is operated, people lower their heads to face the light, which is easy to produce shadows, so it is necessary to add focal light at the bottom of the wall cabinet to supplement the lighting;
◉ There are many storage areas in the kitchen, and sensor light bars (sold on a treasure) can be set up in the cabinets for easy access to objects.
Bathroom
The bathroom is an environment that needs bright lighting. Different scenes have different functions, and it is necessary to set adjustable lighting methods.
▼ tips
◉ The addition of a light bar to the toiletry shelf has a significant effect on creating an atmosphere, and it is also easy to pick up and place items;
◉ The main light for bathroom should be waterproof IP65 grade at least.
◉ When there is a mirror cabinet in the bathroom, install light strips on the top and bottom of the cabinet to avoid the shadow on the face caused by the overhead light when looking in the mirror;
◉ It is better to install the light switch in the bathroom outside the door. It is better to choose the switch panel with an indicator light, which is more convenient to get up at night.
