Part 1. How to Backup iPhone via iCloud
iCloud is one of the easiest ways to backup an iPhone to the cloud. However, Apple only offers you 5GB of free iCloud storage, or you need to buy more iCloud storage space. To learn how to backup iPhone to iCloud, follow the steps below:
Steps to backup with iCloud
- Make sure the Wifi network is turned on on your iPhone.
- Go to Settings > iCloud .
- If you are not signed in to your iCloud account, sign in to it.
- Press backup. If your iPhone is on iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Backup .
- Tap Back up now
If you want to automatically backup with iCloud:
- Confirm that you have iCloud enabled in Settings > your account > iCloud > iCloud Backup . If you have 10.2 or earlier, go to settings > iCloud > Backup .
- Connect your iPhone to a power source.
- Connect the device to a WIFI.
- Check that the screen is locked.
- Make sure you have enough available space in iCloud, if not, you need to buy more storage.

Part 2. How to Backup iPhone with iTunes
To backup your iPhone before updating to the latest version of iOS, one of the most widely used methods is to use iTunes.
- Connect your iPhone to the computer with a USB cable and open iTunes.
- If the message “Trust this computer?” Please click “Trust” . Also, it may ask you for the code first.
- On the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your iPhone under DEVICES . This leads to the iPhone control panel on the right.
- In the Summary Tab, go to the Backups section. Click Make Copy Now .
- The copying process begins. Please wait until it is completed.
Steps to encrypt iPhone backup
To ensure safety, you can encrypt your iPhone backup. This means that only the one who knows the password can extract the information from the backup. Encrypted iTunes backups include more information than unencrypted iTunes backups, such as Saved Passwords, Website History, Health Data, etc. Below is the full tutorial, follow it
- In your iPhone control panel, go to the Summary Panel , check Encrypt backup .
- A dialog box appears, asking you the password for the iPhone backup. Enter the password and the backup process begins automatically.
