In Washington, DC, too many young boys are growing up without consistent male role models, leadership support, or safe spaces to grow. The consequences—academic struggles, emotional isolation, and vulnerability to the streets—are real. But so is the solution.

The Protégé Project, a DC-based mentorship nonprofit, is on a mission to inspire, guide, and protect the youth of all backgrounds by pairing them with mentors who see them, believe in them, and walk with them every step of the way.

We don’t just offer mentorship. We offer mentorship, direction, and a vision for a better future—one boy at a time.

What Is The Protégé Project?

Founded in the heart of the nation’s capital, The Protégé Project was created to respond to the growing need for intentional male mentorship in underserved DC communities. Our approach blends cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, academic support, and real-world exposure—so our boys are prepared for whatever life brings.

Whether it’s walking into a job interview, navigating high school pressures, or simply learning how to tie a tie—we’re right there with them.

Why Mentorship Matters

Studies show that mentored youth are:

  • 55% more likely to enroll in college
  • 46% less likely to use drugs
  • More confident, emotionally aware, and equipped to lead

But for Black and Brown boys in DC, the opportunity gap is growing wider. That’s why we focus not just on “saving” youth—but on empowering them to save themselves with guidance, structure, and love.

Our Core Programs

1. 1:1 & Group Mentorship

Weekly mentor check-ins and monthly group sessions with trusted male role models. We focus on character development, emotional awareness, and life planning.

2. Leadership & Life Skills Workshops

From financial literacy and public speaking to conflict resolution and civic engagement, our boys build skills that matter—now and in the future.

3. Cultural & Educational Field Trips

We take our boys beyond their zip codes—exposing them to college campuses, museums, tech firms, government buildings, and cultural spaces that ignite ambition.

4. Community Service & Giving Back

We teach that leadership is service. Our protégés lead and participate in community outreach, food drives, and neighborhood clean-ups.

Who We Serve

Youth ages 6–18 in Wards 5, 7, and 8 in Washington, DC as well as Prince George’s County, MD, who may lack:

  • Active male figures at home
  • Positive peer networks
  • Academic support and consistency
  • Vision for life beyond the block

We create the village they need to grow strong.
