However, when these obstacles prevent fire service vehicles, ambulances, or police patrols from reaching their destinations on time, the consequences become far more severe—it turns into a matter of life and death.
A delay of just a few minutes can take away a precious life, destroy a family, and shatter countless dreams. Therefore, the demand for dedicated emergency roads or corridors is no longer optional—it is a necessity of our time.
A Burning Reality: A Nation at Risk
Fire incidents in Bangladesh have become alarmingly frequent. The statistics speak volumes—
In 2025, a total of 27,059 fire incidents were recorded, averaging nearly 75 fires per day. These incidents resulted in the loss of at least 85 lives, left 267 people injured, and caused an estimated financial damage of around BDT 569 crore.
In 2024, there were 26,659 fire incidents, claiming 140 lives and injuring 341 people, with losses exceeding BDT 446 crore.
In 2023, the situation was even more severe, with 27,624 fire incidents, 102 deaths, and nearly BDT 792 crore in damages.
These are not just numbers—each figure represents a shattered home, a grieving family, and an unfinished story.
Beyond Fire: The Silent Tragedies on Our Roads
The crisis extends far beyond fire incidents.
Every day, patients die inside ambulances stuck in traffic. Expectant mothers lose their lives before reaching hospitals. We witness the heartbreaking cries of a sister losing her injured brother, a mother mourning her child, and helpless children watching their father fade away.
This raises a painful question:
Were these deaths truly inevitable, or are they the result of our systemic failure?
VIP Movements and Public Paralysis
During the movement of high-profile individuals—such as the Prime Minister, President, ministers, or foreign dignitaries—roads are often blocked for extended periods due to security measures. This brings the entire city to a standstill.
But what happens if an ambulance is caught in that gridlock?
What if a fire breaks out at that very moment?
A dedicated alternative road system could effectively resolve this recurring crisis.
Why Emergency Roads Are Essential
- A Lifeline for Survival:
A timely ambulance can save a life. A delayed one can cost it. - Effective Disaster Control:
Faster access for fire service teams can prevent small fires from turning into massive disasters. - Efficient Urban Management:
Dedicated emergency lanes will enhance traffic control and improve overall city management. - Global Standards:
Most developed countries have reserved lanes for emergency vehicles—Bangladesh must not lag behind. - Fundamental Human Right:

The Way Forward: Time for Immediate Action
We strongly urge the government and relevant authorities to—
- Allocate dedicated roads or lanes for emergency services in all major cities
- Integrate emergency corridors into all new infrastructure projects
- Designate certain existing roads as “Emergency Corridors”
- Enforce strict traffic regulations and raise public awareness to keep these routes clear at all times

Sometimes, the difference between life and death is measured in mere minutes. If we can save those precious minutes through proper planning, we can save countless lives and protect countless families.
