All That You Should Know About the Mot Test

Date:

This is why the UK government has made the APK Leeuwarden mandatory. Any three-year or older vehicle needs to pass the MOT to be driven on the road. This rule was made to minimise road hazards caused due to incompetent or poorly maintained vehicles.

About the MOT

The test is held annually to check the roadworthiness of vehicles. If your vehicle has completed three years of service, you must get it tested. Driving with an expired, failed, or no MOT certificate amounts to a hefty fine. It also costs you a few points on the license. To avoid getting in trouble, you are advised to get the MOT test done.

Where to Get the Test Done?

Various authorised test centres are present in the entire country. All you need to do is book your APK Leeuwarden and get it scheduled. You will have to reach the centre on the specified date and time. The rest will be taken care of by the test centre.

An MOT usually takes 45 to 60 minutes to complete. Some centres also ask you to drop the vehicle in the morning and collect it in the evening. It depends on the test centre where you are getting the test done.

What Happens After You Fail the Mot?

Failing an MOT means you will have to appear for a retest. But it’s done after getting the faults repaired. If you fail the MOT with major faults, you can still drive the car to take it for repairs. But it can happen only if your previous MOT certificate hasn’t expired. Failing the MOT with dangerous faults means you can’t take the car on the road, not even for the repairs. You will have to get them repaired at the test centre itself.

You will either directly pass the MOT or with minor faults. In the latter situation, a warning letter will be issued to you. It will remind you that the vehicle was fine at the time of repair but may soon need to be repaired.

How to Pass the Mot Test?

The only way to ensure that your vehicle passes the MOT is by getting the maintenance service done on time. This ensures that the vehicle remains in good condition.

However, you can also follow the below-mentioned tips to avoid unnecessary MOT failure:

  • Remove all the stickers from the windscreen blocking the driver’s view. This is often considered a risky thing as the driver cannot clearly look on the road.
  • The vehicle should be neat and clean. You are advised to wash the car before going for the test. It is also mandatory to remove all the litter and garbage.
  • The horn, mirrors, lights, and doors should be properly functional. In case you notice something unusual, get it repaired before the MOT.

The MOT test is done to keep you and other passengers safe. It would help if you got the annual maintenance service done on time as it increases your chances of passing the test.
