This guide will help walk you through the process of creating GIFs for use in your digital marketing campaigns, from start to finish, so you can make sure to get the most out of this exciting new technology while remaining compliant with social media and search engine marketing policies. Let’s get started!
GIF: What is it?
A GIF, short for Graphics Interchange Format, is a type of file that captures short video loops. They are often used to show motion and emotion in a still image. In recent years, there has been an uptick in the use of GIFs on social media as an alternative to photos or videos.
For example, if you want to post a video of a dog running but don’t have space for the video footage, then you can just post the looping GIF instead and it will play when people click on it. There are many different ways to make your own looping GIFs and this post will go over some of them.
How to make a GIF from a YouTube video
First, find a YouTube video you want to turn into a GIF. You can use the search bar on YouTube or type in the URL of the video into your browser’s address bar. Next, right-click on the video and select Open in new tab. This will take you to a page with just the video and pause it at its first frame.
Now, open up your preferred photo editing software and create a new blank document. In Photoshop, you can creare Gif by selecting File > New from the top menu bar. For other programs like GIMP or Paint Tool SAI, click on File > New from their respective menus instead. Once your new blank document is ready, drag the video file that is currently playing on the screen over to this new window.
To set which frame you want as the starting point for your GIF animation, click and drag through a few frames at different speeds until you find one that works well. Once selected, let go of your mouse button and hit Save (or Save As). Your image should now be saved as an animated GIF!
