How to Remove Read-Only Error from Micro SD Card?
Method #1: Check If SD Card Switch Is Enabled
Some memory cards have a physical switch on its side that can be toggled to enable or disable the write protection feature. The physical switch on card is typically used to write protect the SD card.
When the switch is in the “lock” position, the card becomes read-only, preventing any new data from being written to it or any existing data from being deleted or modified.
This feature is useful for protecting your important files from accidental deletion or modification, as well as preventing viruses or other malicious software from infecting the card.
So, if you want to get rid of SD card read only problem then you need to put it into the Unlock or off position.
Method #2: Fix SD card read only By Running Error Checking Tool

Step 2: Open “File Explorer” on your computer and locate the SD card.
Step 3: Right-click on the SD card and then select “Properties“.
Step 4: In the “Properties” window, go to the “Tools” tab and click on the “Check” button under the “Error checking” section.
Step 5: The error checking tool will now scan your SD card for errors. If it finds any errors, it will try to fix them automatically.
After the scanning process is complete, eject the SD card from your computer and reinsert it. The read-only error should now be resolved, and you should be able to write to your SD card again.
Method #3: Reformat the SD Card
The last resort that you can perform to fix micro SD card read only error is – Reformat Your SD card.
Please Note – Reformatting the SD card will erase all the data from your card. So, if you have any important data stored on the card, make sure to back it up before proceeding.
Step 1: Insert the SD card into the computer using card reader.
Step 2: Open the “File Explorer” or “My Computer” window.
Step 3: Find your card then make a right-click on the SD card drive and select “Format“.
Step 4: Select the file system type. The most common file system type for SD cards is FAT32. If the SD card is 64 GB or larger, you may want to select exFAT.
Step 5: Select “Quick Format” to save time, or leave it unchecked for a full format & hit OK.
Step 6: Click “Start” to begin the formatting process.
Step 7: Wait for the process to complete, and then click “OK“.
Step 8: Safely eject the SD card from the computer.
After following these steps, your SD card should be reformatted and should no longer be read-only. You can then copy your backed-up data back onto the SD card.
