Method #1: Check If SD Card Switch Is Enabled

Some memory cards have a physical switch on its side that can be toggled to enable or disable the write protection feature. The physical switch on card is typically used to write protect the SD card.

When the switch is in the “lock” position, the card becomes read-only, preventing any new data from being written to it or any existing data from being deleted or modified.

This feature is useful for protecting your important files from accidental deletion or modification, as well as preventing viruses or other malicious software from infecting the card.

Step 1: Insert the SD card into the computer using card reader.

Step 4: Select the file system type. The most common file system type for SD cards is FAT32. If the SD card is 64 GB or larger, you may want to select exFAT.

Step 5: Select “Quick Format” to save time, or leave it unchecked for a full format & hit OK.

Step 6: Click “Start” to begin the formatting process.

Step 7: Wait for the process to complete, and then click “OK“.

Step 8: Safely eject the SD card from the computer.

After following these steps, your SD card should be reformatted and should no longer be read-only. You can then copy your backed-up data back onto the SD card.
