If you’re searching for a new powder coating oven, you’re probably stuck trying to decide what size oven you need. There are a few factors you should consider when deciding whether to buy a small or large coating oven. Too small and you might not be able to fit your largest objects in it, or have to do multiple batches. Too big and you might be wasting electricity and resources. Learn more below.

Think About The Largest Object You Powder Coat

The entire object should fit evenly and completely inside of the coating oven without touching any of the ductwork where the heat will enter. Also consider whether you typically use racks or not for objects going into the oven. If yes, you need to be sure that your racks will fit completely inside of the oven without bumping into anything to avoid knocking powder off. Overall, the ideal sized powder coating oven for you, depends on the size objects you are coating – small objects, smaller ovens but larger objects, larger coating ovens.

How Much Space Do You Have For A Powder Coating Oven?

This is one of the biggest factors to consider when deciding on a small or large coating oven. How much floor space do you have to dedicate to a powder coating oven? That will largely decrease your options in sizes more than likely. And we aren’t talking about guessing, we mean actually measuring and having exact dimensions. If you have ample amounts of floor space and that is not a concern for you, here are a few other considerable factors.

How Many Parts Per Day Do You Powder Coat?

Another factor is considering how many parts you typically powder coat per day. For example, are you coating 4 wheels a day or 40? That is a big difference, and if you’re closer to the higher number, then a large coating oven could be beneficial. It would save you time and you could do larger batches instead of multiple batches. So think about on average the quantity of objects you are powder coating and if you think you could benefit from a large coating oven, you probably could. If you have any questions or concerns, a powder coating equipment company should be able to help you.

Allow Growth

In the end, we are all trying to grow and expand our businesses, and you need to allow for some room to grow when choosing your powder coating oven size. So after measuring and getting your exact dimensions, let’s say you don’t want an oven that fits into the whole space, you want a smaller one. Plan for growth and ask what will happen if I need to fit a few more objects into the oven, will I have room? If not, then you should probably go up one or two sizes. This will ensure that you won’t have to upsize to a larger oven in a few years and you have capacity for growth.
