Sleep is essential for us all, and a lack of it can lead to any number of deteriorations in our general health, from heart conditions to stress, depression and anxiety.
Oftentimes, while there may be other underlying causes for our lack of sleep, an untidy, dirty or cluttered sleeping space can contribute towards insomnia, and to combat that, here are some tips to remember when cleaning your bedroom:
Gather your cleaning supplies
While elbow grease is certainly useful during many cleaning tasks, it’s not enough to properly clean a space, and you’ll need to gather up some cleaning supplies before you begin. From a vacuum cleaner and anti-bacterial spray to a duster, having your supplies close at hand, helps you get the job done far quicker.
Collect trash
Before you begin house cleaning, be sure to remove any trash that might be lying around. Having a small trash can in your room can help you keep on top of such things as wrappers and tissues, and prevent them from cluttering up your room and making the space look unkempt and untidy.
Put dirty clothes into the laundry hamper
It’s so easy to simply drop dirty clothes on the floor at the end of a long day, but if you don’t keep on top of it, before you know it, you’ll have a mountain of unclean clothes, and a lot of laundry to get through. Pick up all clothing items from the floor, and place them in the laundry hamper before you even think about starting to clean the room.
Declutter
Decluttering is an essential activity to carry out no matter what space you plan to clean in your home, as not only will this make cleaning it quicker and easier, but it will help you mentally prepare yourself for the task ahead, too.
Fold laundry
It can be tempting to take clothes out of the dryer and simply deposit them on a chair or bed, but this will only leave you with more jobs to do later when you least want to. For any laundry sitting around waiting to be dealt with in your bedroom, fold it up and put it away before grabbing a duster.
Make the bed
Ideally, you should try and do this as soon as you get out of it each morning, as it will instantly make even a cluttered, messy room look neater and more loved. However, if you haven’t already done so, make the bed before you start cleaning the room.
Dust
For areas in which vacuuming is possible using an attachment, this will help minimize the spread of dust, for everywhere else, use a microfiber cloth. Pay attention to any surfaces which might usually be neglected, to ensure that every inch of the space is dust-free.
Sanitize frequently used surfaces
Disinfect light switches, door/closet handles and any other frequently touched surfaces in the room.
Vacuum and mop (if applicable)
Lastly, vacuum the floor and if applicable, mop it; be sure to get underneath furniture and into all crevices and corners.
Help gain a sound night’s sleep by keeping your bedroom as clean and tidy as possible, at all times. If you need help keeping it, or any other room in your home clean, simply hire a cleaning service once a week, or once a month as required.
