What is Ultem 1000
Ultem 1000 is a high-temperature thermoplastic polyetherimide polymer intended for extrusion moulding. Ultem 1000 is manufactured in a range of stock forms and sizes thanks to the development of innovative extrusion technology. Ultem 1000 resin, produced by ultem 1000 manufacturer, is a cost-effective alternative to PES, PEEK, with good machinability in high-heat applications. Ultem 1000 has high flame resistance with a limiting oxygen index and low NBS smoke development when used continuously over 340 degrees Fahrenheit.
ULTEM 1000 FEATURES
HEAT RESISTANCE IN THE LONG TERM
Because of the high glass transition temperature of 217 °C, physical and mechanical characteristics are extremely stable at high temperatures. Up to 180 °C relative thermal indices (RTI) are available.
STIFFNESS AND STRENGTH
Among the available options are amorphous thermoplastics with predictable stiffness and strength up to 200 degrees Celsius. Transparent grades without opacifying fillers have the same strength as other thermoplastics with opacifying fillers.
STABILITY IN DIMENSIONS
One of the most dimensional stable thermoplastics on the market, with predictable results throughout a wide temperature range. Filled grades provide very tight dimensional tolerances.
CRACKING RESISTANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS
ULTEM resins retain strength and resist stress cracking when subjected to automotive and aircraft fluids, aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, and weak aqueous solutions, unlike most other amorphous thermoplastics.
TOXICITY, FLAMMABILITY, AND SMOKE GENERATION
Inherent flame resistance without additives in most grades – extremely difficult to ignite, with a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 47% and UL94 V0 compliance in portions as thin as 0.41 mm. According to the NBS smoke evolution test, it produces remarkably little smoke, with combustion products that are no more hazardous than those of wood.
PROCESSABILITY
It may be extruded, thermoformed, extrusion blow moulded, and injection moulded, and its flowability allows for lengthy flow lengths as thin as 0.2mm using standard injection moulding equipment.
APPLICATIONS OF THE ULTEM 1000
Ultem 1000 is excellent for use in difficult environmental situations requiring chemical resistance and high temperature resistance because to its strong mechanical strength and heat resistant composition. It’s suitable for interior components in planes, buses, medical vehicles, steam autoclave resistance, and other vehicles that require similar qualities. Ultem 1000 is suitable for industries that are subjected to harsh circumstances and requirements, such as:
Automotive
Aerospace
Telecom
HVAC
Ultem 1000 (a trade name for Polyetherimide / PEI) is an amorphous thermoplastic with characteristics similar to PEEK. Ultem possesses strong heat resistance, flame resistance, solvent resistance, and steam resistance as a result of this. Ultem is less expensive than PEEK, making it an attractive option for applications that are similar to those that need PEEK. Ultem 1000 rod and sheet, like PEEK, are used in the automotive, aerospace, chemical, and medical industries because of their ability to save money without sacrificing quality..
Ultem is a trade name for Polyetherimide (PEI), an amorphous thermoplastic that may be used in place of PEEK. Ultem, like PEEK, has excellent heat, solvent, and flame resistance, as well as minimal smoke production. As a result, Ultem is used in comparable applications as PEEK, such as the chemical, aerospace, automotive, and medical sectors, where its excellent performance and low cost make it a popular choice.
