What is media production? – A brief explanation

Date:

Media Production is the process of creating and distributing media content. Media can be defined as “any form or medium which allows a message to be transmitted”. This means that any form of communication, such as books, newspapers, television shows, social media posts, and advertisements is considered to be media.

Stages of media production

Media production can be divided into three stages, namely:

  1. Pre-production
  2. Production
  3. Post-production

Pre-production

This covers everything that must happen before you start shooting or recording video footage (or whatever your project maybe). This includes scriptwriting if relevant, scheduling shoots to make sure everyone’s free when you need them to be, hiring actors where necessary – anything you might do in a TV studio or film set that doesn’t actually involve filming.

Production

This involves actually going out and capturing your video footage – it could be anything from a news reporter out in the field, to filming yourself playing video games and then editing them into a YouTube upload. This stage is all about capturing your media content and turning it into something viewers will enjoy watching.

Post-production

This refers to all the processes involved with getting your material ready for distribution. This covers everything that follows after you’ve shot or recorded your video footage (or whatever). It includes cutting scenes together, adding music, special effects, and any other processes which make for an enjoyable viewing experience.

The different types of media production

There are many different types of media production, but the three most common ones are television, film, and advertising.

Television

This is probably the most well-known form of media production, and it refers to the creation of TV shows. Television production can be further divided into two categories: live broadcasting and pre-recorded programs. Live broadcasting is exactly what it sounds like – a show that is broadcast as it happens, in real-time. Pre-recorded programs, on the other hand, are TV shows that have been filmed or recorded in advance and then aired at a later date.

Film

Film production is the process of creating movies. Movies can be classified into two categories: feature films and short films. Feature films are the longer, more well-known type of movie, while short films are typically less than an hour long.

Advertising

This is the creation of promotional materials such as TV commercials, online ads and print advertisements. Advertising production can be further divided into two categories: agency work and in-house work. Agency work refers to advertising that is created by an advertising agency, while in-house work refers to advertising that is created by the company itself (usually in-house marketing teams).

Conclusion

Media production is an essential part of any company’s marketing strategy. From video to photography, the ability to produce high-quality media content can be a deciding factor in whether or not your business succeeds.
