Before diving into the details of this topic, let me first explain what first aid training is. First aid training is one of the two prerequisites to become an FMA (first responder). The other one is first responder training. This is because some of the FMA training programs require an FMA certificate to be issued by the company the FMA is in charge with.

Many of the FMA programs are designed to train young apprentices like Skills Training Group’s first aid course. Sometimes you will hear about FMA workshops, which are also designed for young people. Other FMA training programs are designed for any profession, but usually these are older workers with many years of practical experience.

First aid training

This is a universal training that can be used by anyone. You can run it in your workplace as an informal workshop, or have a professional FMA course delivered by a private company.

Preventive first aid

Preventive first aid (PFA) is a type of first aid training that’s designed to prevent something from happening. Some PFA is a little bit more obvious, some can be a little bit more complicated. If the situation isn’t totally obvious, your PFA course will be longer.

For example, for someone with medical skills, you might need a more serious level of PFA, where you’ll learn how to break down the emergency situation in steps and build a plan.

The more complex the incident, the more comprehensive the PFA and the more time you’ll have to perform it. In all of these types of training, it’s important to remember that prevention is better than cure. Preventive first aid should be done by someone with more medical knowledge and experience than you.

Seek emergency first aid

If you think you might need emergency first aid, this is the type of PFA that is more focused on the situation and the time of day. At this level you should not make a plan. You should be able to handle the situation, but do not need to prepare a pre-planned response.

During the training, you will learn how to use some simple equipment, like the stethoscope, the straight needle, splints, first aid card and some emergency flares.

A few other training possibilities for this type of training are the basic lifesaving course, which teaches you how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). You might also find it useful to take a first aid course designed for firefighters. These are designed to teach you how to put out a fire.

Emergency first aid/CPR

This type of PFA is the most severe one, and is usually offered as part of a full-time course. You will have to attend the entire course (usually around 7 days) to complete this level. You will learn how to perform various lifesaving procedures.

You’ll learn to put out fire, operate the defibrillator, and perform CPR. The course is very intensive and demanding. However, it is an extremely valuable training. If you need emergency assistance, you will probably be able to do something.

Full emergency first aid

If you want to perform CPR during an emergency, but don’t want to run an entire course, there is another option. You can buy some gear and train yourself. Many first responders use the equipment they carry on the job and teach others how to use it.

This is where you have to think like a paramedic. This is the most basic level of first aid, and if you need to perform CPR or some other lifesaving procedure, you will have to be prepared.

Essential emergency first aid

Finally, emergency first aid is the one you can use when you don’t have any other training. It’s not common, but it can be a good idea to get some refresher training in this area if you haven’t done any in a while. This means that you must know what you’re doing, and know what to do during the worst case scenario.

Final Thoughts

First aid training can provide you with a wide variety of benefits. You can learn some basic lifesaving skills that will help you in everyday situations. Skills Training Group’s first aid course can also help you if you are unable to do what you need to do for personal reasons, such as if you are ill or have an injury. Even if you’re an adult, you can still use this type of training to learn how to do first aid. People can fall ill, get injured and develop emergencies that require you to perform emergency first aid. It’s important to know what to do to help them.
