Waterproof Clothing for Work

Regulations and classification

The group of protection against water and solutions of non-toxic substances consists of two subgroups – waterproof and waterproof. The clothes of each subgroup have the designations – “Vn” and “Vu”, respectively.

Waterproof clothing protects against moisture penetration completely. It is made from rubberized fabric, vinyl artificial leather-T as well as from a film (PVC, polyethylene, polyamide, rubber, etc.).

Half-group waterproof clothing prevents the penetration of water only partially, but has good hygienic properties. For its manufacture natural mixed or synthetic fabrics with hydrophobic impregnation or membrane film are used (half-linen canvas, nylon, fabrics with polyester fiber raincoat tent fabrics cotton-air fabrics).

The most common type of waterproof clothing is a raincoat. By type – raincoats, shortened raincoats, elongated raincoats. The sizes of working clothes from the rain correspond to the height, girth of the chest of a typical human figure.

Another type of protection against water is a men’s suit. It consists of a jacket trousers (semi-overalls), headgear and is made in accordance with the requirements of GOST 27643-88.
Headgear from rain includes helmets with a visor, a warm lining and a cape; brim hats; southwester with brims and earmuffs.

Manufacturing features

The manufacturing technology of waterproof clothing has its own characteristics. Products of this type are characterized by a minimum number of seams the presence of special linings and ventilation holes. Pockets and flaps on it are sealed equipped with protective pads. Here one of the most important part of your workwear is Vinyl gloves.

The easiest option is a cape made of polyethylene. It is made by pressure welding. The thickness of the polyethylene film varies from 15 to 120 microns, which determines the durability of the raincoat. It is dyed in various colors at the production stage.

More reliable, wear-resistant models are made by sewing. In this case, all double stitched seams are additionally sealed by welding or adhesive method.

High-quality waterproof products have slip fasteners that protect against wind and slanting rain. To prevent the “greenhouse effect” in the armpits and along the yoke of the back, ventilation holes are provided.

An integral part of waterproof clothing is a hood. It can be stitched and detachable. For convenience an adjustment system for the oval of the face is used as well as auditory openings.

Criteria’s of choice

To perform work duties in extreme conditions, you will need more serious protection – a suit or raincoat made of rubberized fabric. Disposable raincoats are suitable for household use only.

The main selection criterion is water resistance. The pressure gauge reading at the moment when the first leaked drops appear on the surface of the material indicates the level of water resistance. For example:

a raincoat marked 3000 mm is suitable for a short stay in drizzling rain.
5000 mm – an indicator of a product suitable for a short stay in light rain and light snow.
20000 mm is an excellent indicator, in such clothes you can work for a long time in stormy conditions.

The international testing system uses the PSI indicator – an inch per square meter.

When choosing waterproof overalls , you should consider not only its waterproofness. Often, its ability to provide air circulation is much more important. Also an important role is played by the quality of fittings, the availability of convenient devices for storing the necessary small things, the ability to adjust the width, the presence of retroreflective elements, etc.
