Burlington Moving in 2026: The Good, the Bad, and Why We Started Doing It Right at 4uJworks
I still remember my first move in Burlington back in the early 2000s. We had this tiny apartment near the lake, and the guys we hired showed up two hours late, charged extra for “stairs” even though it was ground floor, and left a nice gouge in the hallway wall. My wife was ready to cry, and I swore I’d never go through that again. Fast forward a bunch of years, and now I’m the one trying to make sure nobody else has that kind of day.
Burlington’s changed a ton since then.
In 2026 the lakefront’s still gorgeous, Spencer Smith Park is packed on weekends, and Brant Street has way more good restaurants than it used to. People keep moving here from Toronto because you get more house for the money, great schools, and you can still hop on the GO if you need to get downtown. But the actual moving? That part hasn’t gotten any easier.
The Real Challenges of Moving in Burlington Right Now
The QEW is a beast – one accident near Appleby and the whole day’s ruined. We’ve had crews sit in traffic while the customer’s stressing about closing times.
New subdivisions up in Alton Village look pretty on the listing photos, but good luck getting a big truck up those hills without scraping something.
Older houses in Roseland or Shoreacres have those narrow basements and original floors that you really don’t want scratched.
Condos downtown? You better have the elevator booked or the building manager will give you an earful.
A lot of the big companies or random cheap crews don’t get any of this. They roll in from who-knows-where, rush through it, and then you’re dealing with damaged furniture or surprise fees. I’ve heard every story from customers who tried someone else first – “they held our stuff until we paid double,” “they showed up with one guy instead of three,” “the quote tripled on the day.” It’s frustrating because moving is stressful enough without that garbage.
Why People Stick with Us at 4uJworks
We’re not some downtown outfit that treats Burlington like a side gig. Most of our guys live right here – Shoreacres, Headon, even out toward Millcroft. We know the streets, we know which buildings have slow elevators, we know you don’t want your couch sitting in the rain while the crew argues about parking. We’ve been doing this long enough to spot problems before they happen.
Pricing is simple. We don’t play games.
A small job – like moving a one-bedroom condo or a student apartment – usually starts around $130–$160 an hour for two guys and a truck. If you’ve got stairs or it’s a long carry, we tell you upfront. Bigger house in Roseland or Alton? We’ll come take a look (or do it virtual if you’re working) and give you a flat number so you know exactly what it’s gonna cost. No “oh by the way” surprises. In 2026 with everything costing more, people really appreciate knowing the bottom line before they sign anything.
We carry proper insurance – WSIB for the crew, couple million in liability, cargo coverage. If something ever goes wrong (which thank God is rare), you’re protected. Everyone’s background-checked, they show up in clean shirts with the logo, and they’re actually nice to deal with. No smoking on your porch, no blasting music, no attitude.
We handle pretty much whatever you throw at us:
- Whole house moves, condos, townhouses
- Helping seniors downsize (we take extra time with that)
- Office or store relocations – we can do nights or weekends so you don’t lose business
- Packing if you can’t face it
- Short or long-term storage if your dates don’t line up
- Big stuff like pianos, heavy gym equipment, or that art collection you’ve been collecting forever
The Neighbourhoods We’re Always Running Around In
Burlington’s got so many different feels:
Roseland and Shoreacres – lakefront, big yards, people have nice things so we wrap everything twice
Alton Village – newer houses, young families, those hills keep us on our toes
Millcroft – golf course views, bigger properties, we love the space
Brant Hills and Headon Forest – classic family areas, good mix of price and location
Downtown and Maple – condos with killer views, but the elevator rules are strict
Elizabeth Gardens and Tyandaga – close to Oakville, quiet, waterfront feel
If you live in Burlington, odds are we’ve moved someone on your street.
A Few Things We Always Tell People (Because We’ve Seen What Works)
Try to book mid-week if you can – weekends are chaos on the QEW.
Get rid of stuff early – drop it at the ReStore or Humane Society. Less stuff = easier move.
That “first night” box is a lifesaver – coffee maker, phone chargers, toilet paper, kid’s favourite blanket, dog treats.
Fridge and freezer – defrost them 48 hours before. Nobody wants a puddle in the truck.
Condos or downtown? Book the elevator/permit 3–4 weeks out.
Weather sucks sometimes – we bring extra blankets for winter, water for summer.
If packing makes you want to scream, just tell us. We bring good boxes, lots of paper, and we’re fast.
Some of the Things People Have Said After Their Moves
“Moved from Roseland to Alton last month. They handled the hills like it was nothing, nothing got scratched, and the guys were actually fun to have around.” – Laura (mom of two)
“Had to move our office near Dundas. They came at night so we didn’t miss a single customer. Super professional.” – Mike (small business guy)
“Just a small condo near downtown. Thought it would be sketchy and expensive, but these guys were fair, careful, and didn’t nickel-and-dime me.” – Sarah (first-time homeowner)
How to Get in Touch? Super Easy
Head over to https://4ujworks.ca, fill in the quick form with what you’ve got and where you’re going, or just call/text us. We usually get back the same day with a quote. No pressure, no spam. If it feels right, we lock in the date. We do weekends too because life doesn’t always fit Monday to Friday.
Bottom line: Moving is enough of a pain without wondering if your movers are gonna show up or jack the price. We’re Burlington people trying to make it suck less for other Burlington people. We treat your stuff the way we’d want our own treated (my wife would never forgive me otherwise).
Thinking about moving soon? Drop us a line. We’ll take care of the hard part.
Talk to you soon,
Carla (and the rest of the Burlington crew)
P.S. We always throw in free wardrobe boxes – no more garbage bags for your good clothes!
