Marijuana, the most often used illicit substance in the United States, is becoming more popular. Marijuana is currently legal for recreational use in eight states, including California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Alaska, Oregon, and Washington, as well as the District of Columbia. According to the United States National Institute on Drug Abuse, 21 states now permit the ownership and consumption of marijuana for medical purposes. Cannabis consumers apply for an online medical marijuana card to get a licence to buy and grow marijuana.
1. Unusual Ways of Using Hemp:
Cannabis or ‘hemp’ plant fibres was previously used to make rope or fabric materials, in addition to smoking. The strangest application of hemp rope recorded was for hauling massive stone figures. Archaeologists recreated Easter Island’s sculptures in 2012, seeking to find out how ancient humans heaved the renowned heads from their quarry. Theorists have proposed everything from log rollers to alien assistance for the endeavour, but in 2012, Carl Lipo of California State University Long Beach demonstrated that all that was required was hemp rope.
2. Bob Marley was buried with ‘weed’:
Bob Marley was one of the most known figures in Jamaican music. On May 11, 1981, he died of cancer and was laid to rest with his guitar, the Bible, and a marijuana bud. While he was diagnosed with cancer, he continued his tour and wrote songs. Moreover, his last album ‘Uprising’ was published only two days ago. A “Rastafarian priest” was summoned hours before Bob Marley’s death to baptise him.
3. The effects of chocolate can be similar to the effects of marijuana:
San Diego scientists discovered three linked compounds in chocolate that influence the same areas of the brain’s cells that are activated by cannabis smoking. Dopamine concentrations in mouse brain regions associated with addiction are increased by chocolate ingredients in particular.
Dopamine release is typically increased by substances that are addictive such as liquor or heroin. In a study conducted by Dr Laura and her colleagues in Juliano of American University at the Scripps Research Institute, consuming cocoa, ingesting chocolate, and smoking weed all resulted in dopamine surges in a specific area of the brain. And the effects were stronger than those of coffee or morphine. When mice were administered cocaine, the impact persisted longer.
4. Richard Nixon unknowingly assisted Louis Armstrong in smuggling marijuana through US Customs:
We get it, it doesn’t seem plausible, and the narrative could very easily be made up. But, according to Roger Stone who is a self-proclaimed provocateur and Nixon biographer, Richard Nixon was a devotee of Louis Armstrong. So, in 1958, when Vice President Nixon was at a New York airport and saw a nervous-looking Louis Armstrong as he was about to pass through a customs inspection, Nixon approached him, offered to carry Armstrong’s bags, and simply walked the musician past inspection without making headlines.
5. Hemp and Pot:
Although hemp for industrial use crops is the same species as marijuana plants, they do not generate a chemical known as tetrahydrocannabinol acid (THCA). This is the precursor to THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana. According to University of Saskatchewan biochemist Jon Page, hemp plants do not manufacture this chemical because they lack a gene that produces an enzyme that produces THCA.
6. Marijuana and Gender:
According to a 2014 study published in the medical journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, smoking may be an entirely distinct experience for men and women. Females were more susceptible to cannabis’ painkilling benefits, but they were also more inclined to build a tolerance for the substance, which could lead to undesirable side effects and reliance on marijuana, according to the University of Washington psychologist Rebecca Craft’s research on rats.
7. Researchers are failing to create a marijuana-replicating alternative:
Marijuana is utilised for medical purposes in addition to recreational purposes. Marijuana is utilised to bring consolation to critically and chronically ill patients as well as to improve their digestive processes. This includes those with AIDS, cancer sufferers, and others with chronic illnesses.
Medical cannabis facts are a source of contention among marijuana detractors. One thing is certain: the cannabis plant contains other cannabinoids, or chemicals, that have significant mental and physical impacts. These extra components, a few of which are not known, contribute to marijuana’s medical impact, which brings respite
to sick patients.
