Tips to Mask the Taste of CBD Oil

Acne, cancer, epileptic seizures, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, chronic pain – these are just a few medical conditions in which CBD has proved to be a successful form of treatment. One of the most popular forms in which people having health issues consume CBD is CBD oil.

While there’s no denying that consuming CBD oil has a lot of benefits, especially when it comes to health, there is one thing that can be a deal-breaker, and that even the best CBD oils have. That is a grassy or earthy taste, which discourages many people from trying it – especially since the oil’s users are usually instructed to place it under their tongue for 30-90 seconds.

What they seem to not know, however, is that masking the not so pleasant taste is not that difficult as one might think. How can you do that? Well, keep reading if you want to find out. Without any further ado, let’s just jump right into it.

Consume It With Something Sweet

Think about it – why do so many people add sugar to their coffee? Because they want to mask its bitterness. You can do the same thing here, as your tastebuds will get sweetness before any other flavor.

One of the best products to use in this case is honey. Not only will it mask the taste of the CBD oil, but you also won’t feel as guilty about it since you used nature’s sweetener. Using sugar is not the best idea here, as it might go into the oil, which will result in you only feeling the texture, and no sweetness.

Hold Your Breath

As silly as it might sound, there is science behind it. While you may think that the tongue is the most important organ when it comes to tasting flavors, nothing could be further from the truth. Our tongue has thousands of taste buds, which can sense flavors like bitter, sweet, sour, salty, and others. However, overall, the tongue picks up relatively few flavors.

The nose, on the other hand, can sense over one thousand flavors, which are detected either when they pass the nasal cavity or when they go into the oral cavity from the back of your mouth. Without the nose, everything you eat would have no flavor. Just think back to the last time you had a cold and a running nose. You probably noticed that when you ate with your nose blocked, the food was less flavoury, wasn’t it?

Use Mints

When it comes to mints, you can take it either as you are taking the oil, or right after. Depending on what you prefer, you can use a traditional mint (e.g. a Tic Tac) or a chewing gum – either way, its strong flavor should either dilute or even eliminate completely the bitter taste of the CBD oil.

You might be wondering – how does it work? Well, the secret is menthol  – one of the mint’s chemicals. As menthol binds with the skin’s cold-sensitive receptors and makes them more reactive, it tricks the brain into thinking that the area to which it was applied (in this case your mouth) is cold.

Try Adding It to Your Food or Drink

Usually, the methods we listed above are enough to mask the taste of a CBD oil, and make the consumption at least slightly less unpleasant. However, if even after trying them you cannot stand the taste, don’t worry as there are other ways too – for example, adding the oil to your food or drinks. You have to keep in mind though that the absorption might not be as good as when you consume the oil directly.

While, as we already mentioned, sweets mask the taste of CBD oil the best, fans of savory food will also find something for themselves. The thing is that, when it comes to cooking with cannabis, it can be included in almost every dish – as long as you know how you should do it.

There are thousands of different recipes available online, so if you are interested in it, all you have to do is open Google and do a little research.

Final Thoughts

Although consuming CBD oil has definitely many medical benefits, there is one thing that discourages people from trying it – its taste. However, as you could see above, there are many ways in which you can mask the not so pleasant taste. Which one is the best? Well, that depends solely on you and your taste buds.
