Tips for creating a blog: 14 things you can’t miss
I’m sure that many of the people who access the Digital Results blog are already effectively doing Digital Marketing and are looking for ways to improve their results. However, there is still a part of the readers that has not taken its first steps. It is for this second group that we wrote today’s post.
One of the starting points in our vision is to have a good blog. We have already explained the reasons for a company to have a blog and the intention now is to go into practice. What does it take to create a blog? Below are our tips:
STRATEGY
SUBJECTS – One way that almost never works is to try to talk about everything on your blog. Start by defining what your blog is about and what your blog is not about.
BLOGUEIROS – Who writes for the blog, just you or the whole team? Who will ensure that the entire team writes? Defining responsibilities is important to ensure the continuity of the blog.
TARGET AUDIENCE – Of course, everyone can access the blog, but it is recommended to think about the ideal audience you want to reach with the blog. With this figure in mind, it is easier to define the way of speaking and also the subject, which we commented above.
FREQUENCY – How often will a post be published? The person responsible for the blog must ensure that the ideal frequency is guaranteed. Remembering that it is interesting that a blog has at least 1 post per week.
CONVERSION OBJECTIVES – Your blog must have calls for at least one conversion objective.
It can be an eBook, a Webinar, a discount coupon, a free trial, it’s up to you. What we must not forget is that a blog must be able to convert its visitors and generate business opportunities.
KNOWLEDGE
BASIC SEO – You don’t have to start by being a master in search engine optimization, but it is important to have at least some basics.
Understanding how Google works, choosing keywords and taking the first steps in optimizing websites is enough to get you started.
WEBWRITING – Again, there is no need to be a master here, but it is interesting to have at least a few basic steps.
Our last post brought good tips for writing well on the web.
IMPLEMENTATION
URL – To start, you must have an address for the blog. There may be exceptions, but our general recommendation for a company is to use blog.empresa.com.br or www . company . com/ blog .
Although it is common, it is not worth using a free address as a blogger . com or wordpress . com . Using this type of address, your company’s website does not take advantage of one of the main benefits of having a blog, which is to position yourself better on Google. For those who want to know more, we have a post explaining better why not use a free address on your blog.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT PLATFORM – It is important that the person in charge of marketing be able to publish and change the content without always needing the help of an IT team.
Content management systems (CMS) make this easy. Examples are widely used Joomla and WordPress.
POSSIBILITATE SUBSCRIPTION – As a way to keep readers always close to your blog, you must give them the option of receiving posts by email or RSS. Options like Feedburner serve to offer subscription on the main content platforms.
SEARCH OPTIONS – Having a search field helps the visitor to find content quickly and easily. This helps a lot to decrease the bounce rate of the blog.
COMMENTS – Another reason to have a blog is the engagement it provides. Be sure to include a space for visitors to comment on the posts.
BUTTONS FOR SHARING – Social media and email should be great drivers of traffic to your blog.
Help and encourage users to share by placing Facebook Like buttons, emailing, posting to Twitter, etc.
WEB ANALYTICS PACKAGE – Deming was famous when he said “what is not measured is not managed”. A Web Analytics package is essential to understand what is and what is not working on your blog and thus keep improving.
We have already indicated that not using a Web Analytics package correctly is among the most common mistakes in digital marketing.
