Things you need to get quality SEO backlinks

What is a quality backlink and why is it important to get one? To rank high on Google, you need 3 things: a fast, user-friendly site, relevant content, and inbound links.

There are many kinds of backlinks, good quality, medium … and bad.

Those that interest us the most are links placed on keywords and expressions related to the theme of the page to which they refer, links from sites with good authority (DA). And as we are never better served than by ourselves, the ideal is still to create them!

How, as a new business without any brand awareness, can you get quality backlinks?

If your website has just been uploaded, it may take you a while to get backlinks. Of course, you can start by setting up a Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram account, and Google+ MyBusiness account to start getting some links. But that will not be enough to gain notoriety.

The idea of submitting your site to directories is to be avoided, Google is not really a fan of it. These are low quality backlinks.

It will therefore be necessary to put in place a great strategy from an SEO company and precise actions to obtain quality inbound links. Here are some ideas of actions you can use.

Use your network

The first thing to do is talk to people you already have a relationship with, who you have already bonded with. Maybe you can write on their sites in the form of guest-blogging.

Once you’ve written a guest post, all you need to do is link to your own site and you’ll get that link on another site. This technique is of the win-win type. You get a link in exchange for an article you wrote to them. Remember that every site needs more content!

So start small, then grow little by little, and then you can reach out to bigger publishers.

Create easy-to-read content

One medium that I particularly like for building backlinks is computer graphics. An easy-to-use format, which makes reading simple, which is what makes it so popular.

To find the most popular blog posts in a topic, you can use, for example, Buzzsumo. This tool will rank them by popularity.

Once you find these articles, assuming they are informative and factual, turn the data in them into an infographic. It’s not that difficult: you can use Canvas or hire a graphic designer on Fiverr or Dribble. The price of a graphic designer varies between 10 and 100 € to create an infographic. Once you’ve got the infographic, promote it on social media.

At the same time, approach the author of the original article and anyone related to that article, and ask them to share the infographic as well. This is where SEMrush  comes in. We just insert the URL of the original article and it shows us every single person who is linked to that specific website or article.

Then we just need to email each of these website owners to say, in essence, “Hello, I noticed you have a link to this XX article. We made an infographic of it, you can see it here. It makes the data a lot easier to read and understand, and I think your readers will love it. ”

With this strategy, we easily get several quality backlinks!

Improve existing content

Another way to get these backlinks is to follow a very specific and proven method. Brian Dean of  Backlinko thus uses the technique known as “skyscraper”, with great success.

The Skyscraper technique

In short, the so-called skyscraper technique consists of finding popular content on the theme that interests you, and recreating this content with a much higher quality. It will then be a question of contacting the sites that have a link to this content, and offering them yours in exchange.

Basically, the idea is to search for content with a high popularity rating. Using a tool like Buzzsumo, you will be able to find the topics and articles that have been shared the most. You type the keyword corresponding to the topic that interests you and you see which are the best results.

You can also use SEMrush  to get a better idea of who is related to what. Then to find the site contacts, you can even use a tool like Email Hunter and then find their emails.

For example, if there is an article on How to Get 100,000 Visitors to Your Website, maybe you can create a much larger and more in-depth article. You can have a lot more statistics. You can also have a lot more images or layers in the videos. In short, you make your article better than the one already published.

Then once you’ve created that premium content, you’ll reach out to the different people on that tone: “Hey, by the way, we noticed you’ve linked to this resource. It’s great, but we’ve created something a little more epic, and we’d love to hear what you think about it.”

The idea is that if something is already good and you’ve created something better than everything else, obviously people are going to want to link to you.

Capitalize on broken links

Another thing to keep in mind is that there are millions of web pages on the internet that go missing every week. This means that sites that link to these pages now have dead links. Head over to  Broken Link Checker where you will find plenty of tools to show you broken links on the web.

Once you have found any articles with these broken links, you can go to SEMrush to see any sites linked to that page that no longer exist. Then all you have to do is take the URL of the old page that is no longer available on the Internet, go to the  Internet Archive , insert that URL, and it will show you the contents of said page when it was online.

You can then create a better version of the post, place it on your site, and email each of the site owners who previously linked to that old post which is no longer accessible.

Another great way to take advantage of broken links is through event marketing. Let’s say you organize a marketing event in Paris, and that you are going to do it once a year. And let’s say there is also a resource page on major Paris marketing events.

It obviously won’t be a problem to email the page owner asking them to add your event to that resource page. It is not even necessary for a link to be broken in this case!

Search for sites accepting guest-blogging and press relations

There are several ways to find sites that accept guest articles. You can simply use Google by typing “guest article” + your industry or the topic you are looking for. There are many different resources.

Another tip is to go through PR sites such as Babbler. You just need to create a press release and publish it on the platform. Journalists and bloggers are present and constantly looking for topics.

Another technique, do not hesitate to contact journalists directly. You can find them via Twitter and send them a DM, or search LinkedIn as well. Many are open to discussion, and this can help you get more quality links for your website.
