Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald repeatedly swung a helmet at Cincinnati Bengals players in a brawl between the two teams Thursday, putting an early end to their joint practice session.
Players threw fists and helmets during scuffles leading up to the final freeWatch NowforWatch Nowall. Donald, a threeWatch Nowtime AP Defensive Player of the Year and eightWatch Nowtime Pro Bowler, was thrown to the ground after swinging a helmet.
Bengals coach Zac Taylor downplayed the event, saying: “Emotions run high. We’ve been working together for two days now, and that’s just some real competitive guys getting into it.”

Any punishment for the brawl would have to be issued by the Rams and Bengals because the NFL doesn’t impose discipline for conduct at practice, a league official told The Associated Press.
Things got chippy in the middle of the second day of the joint practice, when Cincinnati offensive lineman La’el Collins blocked Donald as quarterback Joe Burrow completed a long pass to Ja’Marr Chase. On the next play, Collins scuffled with linebacker Leonard Floyd, ripping off the defender’s helmet and tossing it.
Collins was involved in another scuffle before the final sidelineWatch Nowclearing fight.
The Bengals and Rams, who played in the Super Bowl in February, face each other in the final preseason game on Saturday night in Cincinnati.
In 2019, the Browns’ Myles Garrett was suspended six games for using his helmet to smash Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph over the head during a regularWatch Nowseason game.

Rams, Bengals end joint practice early following multiple fights
The Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals ended their joint practice early on Thursday after multiple fights broke out.
Reports indicated that Rams AllWatch NowPro defensive lineman Aaron Donald wielded and swung around at least one Bengals player’s helmet amid one of the skirmishes.
“It got a little scuffley, and so we just called it,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said. “We were in the last period. We got two really good days of work in. Was it worth getting the extra couple of plays? No. So we called it off. We got two good days of work in and we’ll go play on Saturday.”
Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters he was not sure what caused the fights.
“I think in some instances teams defending each other,” McVay said, per The L.A. Times. “Fortunately, my understanding is nobody got hurt and we’ll move on from it. Not going to make a bigger deal than what it is. Not going to look at pointing fingers.”
Taylor declined to get into what caused the fracas.
“I won’t get into what happened, it’s over, we got two days of work in and everybody’s healthy,” Taylor said.
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported that clubs, not the league, are responsible for overseeing players’ conduct at practice. Thus, it’s unlikely the league would discipline Donald or any other players for their roles in Wednesday’s dustups, Pelissero added. Teams, however, can discipline their players for practice conduct.
The teams that met in Super Bowl LVI reprised the action with the first of two sessions on Wednesday, which went off without a hitch. Thursday, however, saw multiple fights break out on the field — and Bengals offensive lineman La’el Collins and Rams linebacker Leonard Floyd reportedly were at the center of two of the bigger ones.
At one point, Collins reportedly threw Floyd’s helmet at Floyd, leading to masses of players from both teams throwing punches, yelling, pushing and shoving. Collins and Floyd went at it again during the second major fight.
Eventually, the coaches had seen enough. After the two teams were separated, they canceled the remainder of the practice session.
Rams, Bengals joint practice erupts into massive brawl, Aaron Donald swings helmets
A massive brawl erupted on Thursday afternoon at a joint practice between last year’s Super Bowl teams — the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals — and AllWatch NowPro defensive tackle Aaron Donald appeared to be in the middle of it.
Practice was apparently heated from the start, with a couple of scrums happening that reportedly stemmed from Bengals tackle La’el Collins and Rams defensive end Leonard Floyd.
The third fight was when all hell broke loose. Donald was seen on video swinging around two Bengals helmets before being shoved out of a pile.
