The Book Shelf technique to find an online business idea you will LOVE
Doing a job you hate sucks. Everyday you spend hours and hours on something you do not like.
Â
It’s tiring. It drains you. And you know from within you are just doing it for the sake of it. For a fixed monthly income.
Â
In reality, you don’t enjoy it.
Â
What if you start a business, and not just any business, but rather a business you LOVE doing what you do.
Â
Imagine this — you no more have to think of waking up early next morning. Or just the thought to do the same tiring thing the next day.
Â
Instead, you look forward to the next morning. You look forward to get out of your bed, have breakfast and work on something you are deeply passionate and excited about.
Â
How would life be? What would it mean to you?
Â
Today, I’ll show you a simple technique that makes you come up with online business ideas you are naturally passionate about.
Â
It’s an easy-to-use technique, and all you need is your thinking hat.
Â
I call it the Book Shelf technique.
Â
Â
The Book Shelf technique to find an idea you’re passionate about
Â
Do you love reading books? If yes, great.
Â
If no, don’t worry. This technique does not require you to love reading books.
Â
Rather, I want you to picture this. You go to a library store. Come’on, just imagine it.
Â
Alright great.
Now, what do you see? Thousands and thousands of books right in front of you.
Â
Ask yourself — which book would you pick IF you had to? No judgements. No guesses. Let’s be honest here.
Â
There are a few categories of books you are naturally attracted towards. Which are they?
Â
Would you
- Pick fashion and styling books?
- Read books on finance and economics?
- Love checking out all books on communication and management techniques?
Â
Â
Which books would you pick if you had to? Let’s do a real-life case study here.
Â
If you ask me, I would check book categories of:
Â
- Business strategies
- Charisma and become likeable
- Using humor and tone in your speech
- Persuasion, psychology and influence
- Copywriting
Â
Woah! We have a bunch of business ideas right in front of us. You see? Let me show you.
Â
We can start a business around business strategies, how to grow your business, how to hire people, how to retain clients, etc.
Â
Or we can start around copywriting, content writing, how to write better, how to start a content blog, what type of articles to write, etc.
Â
Or we can take humor as a business idea, and evaluate stand-up comedy as a viable business.
Â
You see what we just did there?
Â
We took these ideas which are hovering in our mind, down to the streets and converted into a tangible roadmap.
Â
This is beautiful.
Â
Now, of course, we have to do a lot more work. Like researching further on the idea, evaluating demand for it, validating it, and getting our first clients to guarantee this idea works.
Â
But, right now, all we are doing is brainstorming. Writing down all possible ideas which might be good. No rocket science. No fancy excel spreadsheets.
Â
Just make a note on what topics you already love to immerse yourself in. That’s an amazing first step in getting started.
Â
Â
You are ALREADY an expert at this
Â
The best part about this technique? It’s that you don’t have to worry about the nonsense questions, like “what if I am not an expert?” or “what if I am not good at this?”
Â
You are already good at this. You are good enough. That’s what you need to start a business.
Â
Remember, there are only the fundamental things you need to start a business. That is:
Â
- Finding an idea you will LOVE
- Validating that idea
- Getting your first 1-3 clients
Â
Because once you get few customers, you can get the next 10. Then, the next 100. And you can grow.
Â
The book shelf technique is amazing, since it goes inside your heart and makes you write down all the ideas which you are already good at.
Â
You already love talking about these topics. Trust me it’s much much easier to start a business around what you love doing.
