As summer film releases begin, both movie theatres and streaming platforms see a significant increase in traffic. Despite the fact that the year is only halfway through, dozens of family-friendly (and not-so-family-friendly) animated films have already reached the big – and small – screens. There are various films presently appearing in cinemas and on streaming services that should not be missed, and many have received excellent ratings and reviews.

The House

The House, not to be confused with the 2017 live-action Will Ferrell film of the same name, is a recent addition to Netflix’s stop-motion animation portfolio. The comedy-horror picture appeals to both older and younger audiences, and it serves as a reminder that stop-motion animation is a timeless type of filmmaking.

Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween

Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween is a Japanese animated mystery that is the latest addition to the Detective Conan film series and television show, which are all based on the nearly 30-year-old manga series of the same name, commonly known as Case Closed.

The film released in Japan in April to generally positive reviews, and it presently has a 7.0 rating on IMDB. It debuted at number one at the box office in its opening weekend, mirroring the success of the rest of the franchise in previous years.

Turning Red

Turning Red made a tremendous splash with a fresh Pixar take on a coming-of-age story. The film is set in 2002 and follows eighth-grader Meili Lee as she deals with a family curse that turns her into a big red panda at the first sign of strong emotion.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

Minions: The Rise of Gru, the latest installment in Illumination’s renowned Despicable Me franchise, debuted earlier this month and quickly became a fan favorite. This film has been named as Illumination Studios’ greatest by the ever-critical Letterboxed, and fans of all ages have been rushing to theatres to see it.

The Sea Beast

The Sea Beast, a fun animated adventure fresh new to Netflix and immediately creating waves among audiences, follows the narrative of a little stowaway girl on a monster hunter’s ship. The 7.1 IMDb rating is just one example of the excellent praise it’s earned since its release, which has swiftly made it a new fan favorite on the streaming site.

The Sea Beast is a superb addition to the portfolio of both Netflix original animated movies like 123 movies sonic 2 and family-friendly comedies with relatable, wonderful characters to carry it through, with perfect visuals and a delightful fantasy tale.

The Bob’s Burgers Film

The Bob’s Burgers Movie, a perfectly fitting sequel to the Bob’s Burgers television show, has reignited the demand for family-friendly adult animation on the big screen. The television show, with its once-an-episode musical number and often larger-than-life plotlines, transferred over quite naturally to the big screen, essentially turning the movie into a feature-length episode of the show – both functional on its own, and working with already established details to add to the episodic feel.
