Spring Equinox

  1. What Does Spring Equinox Mean

The spring equinox, also known as the March equinox or vernal equinox, occurs when the Sun crosses the equator line, heading north. The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night”, as “aequus” stands for equal and “nox” for night. Equinoxes are the only two times in a year when the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world.

This event marks the first day of spring in the northern half of the globe. The Northern Hemisphere begins to be tilted more toward the Sun, resulting in increasing daylight hours and warmer temperatures. In the Southern hemisphere, the exact opposite happens as it marks the start of autumn as the Southern Hemisphere begins to be tilted away from the Sun.

In 2021, the spring equinox took place on Saturday, March 20th. As of this day, we get to enjoy the increasing sunlight hours due to earlier dawns and later sunsets, which is only one perk of springtime.

2.Benefits of the Spring Season

Spring is officially in the air and it brought its many beauties along for the ride.

Sunshine

After a freezing and gloomy winter, a cozy spring sunshine is finally here to brighten our days. Although you will still need a light jacket, you can put the heavy clothing aside.

The perfect temperature

Winters can be freezing whereas summers can be boiling hot. Spring does not come with extremes but rather brings us the ideal temperatures to pursue cool outdoor adventures and still enjoy romantic evenings curled up in a blanket. There’s also that delightful spring breeze that refresh us within a second.

Longer days

With more sunny hours in a day, you will have more time to do what you love, workout outside or try out a new hobby.

Flowers

Spring rewards us with dazzling flowers of all sorts that we get to see blossoming everywhere around us.

Spring cleaning

With spring, everything is waking up and that includes our motivation. It’s time for a fresh start so out with the old and in with the new. Spring cleaning might be all about deep cleaning our homes, but our minds get a kick out of it too.

Easter

What would spring be without its main holiday! Easter is perhaps the most colorful holiday and besides coloring up those eggs, we get to spend the much-needed quality time with our loved ones. After a year of self-quarantine, it’s time to restart making some beautiful memories that make life worth living.

3. Tips on Getting Ready for Spring

It’s time to get your home ready for spring and spring cleaning is the way to go.

Clean or change filters

Not only is this necessary for indoor air quality, but this can ensure longevity of your HVAC and help it stay efficient and therefore keep your Columbia Gas monthly expenses low. Debris and dirt harm our health and our wallet as they make the HVAC system work harder to perform the desired task and therefore make it consume more energy.

Clean all your appliances and furniture

From your furniture to your gas grill, every inch needs to be deep cleaned so you ensure it is running optimally. This act alone will increase the life span of your devices and help them consume less energy, benefiting the planet and your wallet.

Show your garden that you care

It’s time for your lawn to wake up from winter dormancy. Winters can be hard on your landscaping so assess any winter damage and get started on removing weed, broken or damaged branches, and fallen leaves so your flowers can blossom.

Clean your windows inside and out

How do you intend to let the sunshine in through streaked and dirty windows?

Takeaway

It’s been a long and cold winter but now it’s time to wake up and smell the roses. Go ahead and give yourself and your home a deep-cleaning detox and a fresh start.
