K-pop music is spreading across the world like wildfire. Not just the Asians, but even the Americans are grooving at the beats created by the South Korean artists. The South Korean music industry is growing rapidly, acquiring a worldwide fanbase. Despite the popularity of these Asian artists and music, the American music industry still has little or no South Korean representation. It makes many South Koreans with a dream to acquire success in this industry, skeptical about stepping in the American market. They are unsure whether they will be able to establish a successful career or not.
Changing things for these artists is Sean Koh, stage name, ESKOH, the first global American icon with a South Korean descent. Even though he is a New Yorker himself, he is working tirelessly to establish a path of entrance in the American music for South Korean artists.
When Sean graduated from high school, he got an opportunity to train to become a K-Pop artist. It was his chance to make it big; instead, he decided to stay in the United States. The 16-year-old aspiring music artist wanted to pursue music, but he wanted to do something great. The reason why he stayed back in the country was his deep desire to establish South Korean representation in the American music industry.
At the age of 16, he stepped into the music world with a gospel album. After the release of the album, he began touring across America and Asia. It helped Sean Koh establish a global identity as an American icon with a South Korean descent. While this was a major step towards his goal, a South Korean representation in American music, he did not stop here.
Just after he returned from his tour, he worked to lay the foundation of the first student-run record label, Koherent Records. It was part of his family business, but it was solely run by the young Sean. The platform played a major part in bringing South Korean artists in the American world of music. One of the artists that he brought to the world through Koherent Records was Ailee, who one of the biggest K-pop stars at present. Another artist who has made it to the top in this industry is Jessica Jung. Before she made it big in this industry, she was part of Giel’s Generation, a South Korean girl band.
ESKOH’s role in the music industry is something that the world cannot overlook. Being one of the first global icon in the world of Music, born in America with roots back in South Korea, he is playing a prominent role in bringing in South Korean talent in the American music industry. Through his efforts and platform, Koherent Records, things are expected to change for all those South Korean artists with a passion for becoming successful musicians in America’s music landscape.
