This morning on the podcast, we’ll be discussing the five distinguished names. We’re all familiar with the meaning of the d in the name. This is a dynamic microphone, and more specifically, a 37 XLR dynamic microphone, which is indicated by the “right” symbol. What a crazy thought! However, I feel compelled to note the existence of a microphone that, in my opinion, has great potential for newcomers. And I do want to give credit where credit is due, so that’s cool. It’s just one more thing I can encourage to try to get someone to fall in love with audio. Discreet microphones gave this product a negative barking evaluation.
That review was a clink for me to see. If you want to go, you should listen to his review because he does have a somewhat deeper voice and the small affiliate link bought it because of him. Watching as many reviews as possible is always the wisest course of action when considering the purchase of any product, and this is especially true whether shopping for something as technical as a microphone or as subjective as a camera. Just wait and see what conclusions each person draws. That being said, I must confess that I did, in fact, pay cash for this microphone.
I did not receive it from Fifine, but even if I had, I would still feel compelled to express my viewpoint regardless of the source. Budget-friendly, high-quality sound may be had from brands like Five Fine and Mayano. Have you found a single flaw in everything they’ve produced? False, but they all have some good alternatives to consider. A microphone is available in Mayano. The PD100 has a retail price of $45 and may be purchased online. In addition to the XLR cable, this one also includes a little more robust desk tripod.

This justifies the slight price differential. However, the quality of the microphone’s sound is my primary concern, therefore I’ll be contrasting two popular models, the Fifine k669 d and the Mayano PD100. It’s all metal, baby, once again, but not the most desired height, and if you plan to put the microphone on this and really set it on your desk, and you want to move practically anything about or type on your keyboard, it will be troublesome.
Probably the only aspect of the construction I’m not crazy about is the rigid mount. The plasticky parts are the worst, but I can’t really expect miracles from such trinkets. when the mic is constructed ahead of time. This sturdy mount is cheap, and it does an outstanding job. The bottom portion is threaded for a 5/8 inch nut and then a 3/8 inch nut immediately afterward. This means that a stand is unnecessary.
However, you will need an adapter with this if you plan on using it on a device with a short 3/8-inch threading and a subsequent obstruction. Not compatible with that, but designed for cheaper boom arms with the 3/8-inch threading on the top of the tiny long section. Even though it would have been awesome if it had come with a windscreen, I’ll attempt to locate one that is compatible with this model because even the cheapest of windscreens isn’t all that exciting. I think this is a win in terms of accessories and construction, and if you’re concerned about the plosives we’ll let you know which one we recommend. The microphone itself lacks any distinguishing characteristics.

Because there are no controls of any kind on this microphone, I guess it’s safe to go on to the few specifications I do know. A dynamic microphone, the five-fine k669d is in the fine category. Since it is a dynamic microphone and is thus inactive, it is an XLR microphone and has a cardioid polar pattern. There is no need for phantom electricity to operate. It can pick up frequencies from 50 Hz to 16 kHz with a sensitivity of -50dB +/- 3dB.
A lot of information about this microphone’s technical specifications is lacking, but enough of that—let’s get to the good stuff. But enough of this; it’s time to start the tests. While I planned to do the most of my experiments without a windshield, I did wish to conduct a few with protection. Though it may have been overkill for this microphone, I also tested the Rode windshield. That’S 37. I’d say it’s around 25, but it’s a tad bulky for this microphone.
After that, I decided to see whether an SM7B replacement windscreen would work, and it does, kind of. A conventional tiny bit longer foam windscreen, however it does appear a little strange and lumpy if it’s the best fitting windscreen. You may think of this as a stage version of a foam windshield. I could add a link here, but it appears that the five excellent individuals who were supposed to use this with it intended me to use this one. They may already have their own windshield, or they may decide to release one in the future. I don’t think they have, but since this one is the cheapest and seems to be the most appropriate, I’ll use it for a few experiments; let’s begin with a proximity effect analysis.

With the Vocaster One’s radio gain set to its default of 50%, here’s how it sounds. The radio preset appears to have a rather high amount of compression, a moderate amount of bass increase, a moderate amount of mid-range decrease, and a small amount of treble. Here’s how it sounds with the Vocaster’s digital signal processing on; next, I’ll take the mic to an untreated, very reverberant room to see how it fares.
A Look at Some Sigma OTO Products
These five excellent K669s are currently being recorded in an untreated room, which is about as bad as it gets for audio production. As far as recording environments go, this one is on par with, if not worse than, a typical bedroom. As for the microphone, I am using the included mini-tripod to support it in my hands. Since I won’t be doing any major relocating, I’m hoping that the noise level caused by handling won’t be too high. But now that the bad chamber has been abandoned, let’s return to the good one. In spite of the fact that this is intended for podcasting and everything, let’s quickly put it through its paces with some acoustic and electric guitars.

In this now-repetitive comparison, we’ll put the third microphone to the test. Fifth microphone in this extremely repeated comparison has now been put through another test. This is the final round of testing for the second microphone.
The sixth microphone has completed its audio testing. Mic 3 is being put through its final audio test now. The fifth and final microphone has completed its audio testing. First microphone number one has completed its audio testing.
