New York City Vacation Outings

Our most ambitious trip ambitions are going to come true now that summer is in full swing and immunizations have been properly distributed. But, after a year and a half of restrictions, a faraway trip won’t be enough to quench our wanderlust, so we’ve compiled a list of easy day trips from New York City—perfect for a quick weekend getaway (or a longer vacation with a couple of WFH days thrown in)—all organised by travel time for your convenience.

This summer, skip the Hamptons (all the rentals are already booked) and head north, where a slew of new hotels are bringing life to the Catskills, Hudson Valley, and beyond.

Consider staying in a suite at Scribner’s Catskill Lodge, which has a view of Hunter Mountain. Don’t miss the sourdough bread at Prospect, the fantastic on-site restaurant. This season, they are running at a lower-than-normal capacity and do not take reservations, so call ahead to check on their availability.

Available Lakes as well as the Great Lakes are a short drive away.

Continue on to Saranac Lake, hidden between the Adirondack Mountains, where writers such as Mark Twain and Robert Louis Stevenson sought a mental, physical, and spiritual reset. Check into The Point, an elegant Adirondack lakefront private residence designed for William Avery Rockefeller II. The Point now has 11 different guest rooms and a “house party” ambiance, where guests have access to the entire 7-acre property and the staff anticipates their every need. Hiking boots of various sizes are available for guests to borrow, and the staff frequently arranges impromptu activities based on their wishes.

Continue on to the Finger Lakes if you’re looking for somewhere close yet feels even further away. The region has become one of the top wine-growing regions in the United States, especially for sweeter white varietals like Riesling. On Seneca Lake, visit Glenora Wine Cellars and Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery. Spend the night at the Aurora Inns, a collection of well-appointed luxury residences that have been repurposed into small hotels.

With its brand-new Willow brook Spa, The Lake House on Canandaigua is set to anchor the neighborhood as a wellness destination.

And if the thought of buying a flight through Google and traveling to a airport is too much to handle right now, consider best weekend getaways from NYC, all of which are within five hours of NYC by public transportation or vehicle. Whether you want to focus completely on food or hitting the slopes in the Hunter Mountain area, there’s a vacation for your family weekend getaways in texas.

3.5-hour journey to Providence, Rhode Island

Providence, Rhode Island, has all of the charm that one would expect from a once-great New England metropolis. It’s a town where cobblestone streets and tiny river walks coexist with modern dining places, world-class theatre, and museums that rival any of the larger, big city rivals. Visit Waterplace Park in Providence, where a river relocation project in the 1980s and 1990s revitalised the area and reintroduced tourism to the area.

Plan your trip around WaterFire, an art work that lights up the Providence canals with approximately 100 bonfires on many weekends throughout the summer and fall, or book a gondola with La Gondola to channel your inner Venetian for a journey down the river.

After seeing a concert, dine at Oberlin, a sophisticated seafood restaurant that is consistently voted among the best in the country. Then reserve a room at the ultra-hip, 52-room hotel The Dean, which features a mix of custom and vintage furniture as well as original artwork on the walls. Guests are urged to use the hotel’s complimentary bikes to explore the city while staying there.
