The idea of ushering in a new life brings happiness that is beyond compare. But motherhood is not always a walk in the park. It has its moments, and sometimes, we lose ourselves in the process. That shouldn’t be the case. You should know that motherhood is just another aspect of your life, and you are still in there somewhere. It doesn’t need to take all of you. Instead, it should be a reminder never to take for granted the woman in you.
All sizes and shapes are beautiful, and wanting to stay fit doesn’t mean that you do not love your body. You are doing this because you cannot take care of your family if your body is weak and fragile. According to some studies, exercising can significantly improve the quality of your sleep. If you have a good night’s rest, you have the stamina and energy to attend to your family’s needs.
Regular physical activity also prevents you from gaining excessive weight, which can have negative side effects such as heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and asthma.
Before, staying fit was easy because you can easily hit the gym, but now that we are on lockdown, you need to make do with what you have. You can easily walk up and down your stairs or walk briskly in your backyard. Either way, experts suggest that you should have at least 70 hours of vigorous physical activity and 150 minutes of basic exercise every week.
Take Care of Your Skin
Because of work and household chores, many mothers don’t have the time to pay attention. High levels of stress can cause hives, skin rashes, flare-ups, and psoriasis. It could also make your skin look dry, oily, and dull. But caring for your skin doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, there are many ways for you to pamper yourself even if you are just at home. Some of them are:
- Cleansing — You can clean your face a maximum of two times a day to maintain your skin’s natural oil. You should also avoid cleansers that leave your skin tight after rinsing. Some of the most widely used products that cater to all types of skin are Cetaphil and Aveeno.
- Serums — Use a serum with peptides or vitamin C and use it in the morning after applying your sunscreen. If you want this routine at night, you can look for serums that have retinol.
- Moisturizer — Avoid dry skin by regularly using moisturizer in gel or cream form. For oily skin, the moisturizer should be gel-based, non-comedogenic, and lightweight.
- Sunscreen — The glare of sunlight gives off UV rays that are bad for your skin. To avoid sunburn, you can apply sunscreen that has an SPF level of at least 30. You can also look for products that offer UVA or UVB protection
Relax Your Mind
As parents, we cannot help but overthink the situation. The ongoing quarantine and threat of a deadly virus can cause anxiety and stress even to the strongest person. Sleep is one good way of letting your mind rest. If possible, you need to have at least eight hours of sleep at night to let your body and brain recharge for the next day. Not having enough sleep can make you irritable, and this can affect your family.
Another way to care for your mental health is to avoid reading and watching the news that can trigger your anxiety. It is beneficial for you to unplug from time to time and give yourself a break from all the stressful things happening around you. If you are working during the daytime, you can go offline at night. Studies show that staying away from electronic gadgets at least one hour before bedtime helps your brain relax.
Find a Hobby
Being a mom usually means having a full plate. Aside from working, you are also responsible for household chores and taking care of your family. However, motherhood shouldn’t stop you from learning new hobbies. In fact, you can be the perfect example to your children that it is never too late to do and learn something new. If you are the sentimental type, you can make a scrapbook of all the milestones in your children’s lives. This might also be the perfect opportunity for you to improve your art skills or learn music by enrolling in guitar or piano lessons.
Being a mother is undoubtedly the best thing that could ever happen to most women. It gives you a sense of purpose and importance. Giving your everything to your children doesn’t have to mean forgetting your needs. You are also a human being that gets tired, and you have the right to pause for a moment and focus on yourself.
