Delegated admin privileges (DAP) have historically been used by partners of the Redmond-based software giant to manage and monitor client systems and software purchases.

As a result, granular delegated admin privileges (GDAP) were developed by the company.
GDAP, as its name suggests, restricts partners’ access to customer systems’ resources and permissions. Additionally, zero-trust principles are incorporated to further reduce the likelihood that an attack on a partner will result in end-customer suffering. Customers of Microsoft as well as partners were advised to switch to GDAPs instead of DAPs.

An update on the transition from DAP to GDAP, which will begin on May 22, was provided in a message that Microsoft sent to partners on March 15, 2023.
