Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate ATM Azam Khan has withdrawn from the election in support of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) member secretary Akhtar Hossain as he is running for the Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha and Kaunia) constituency. He took this decision based on the alliance agreement. He announced his support for Akhtar in a post on social media on Monday night. Meanwhile, he told local journalists that he has decided to withdraw from the election in the larger interest of the center and the alliance. We will support Akhtar Hossain of the alliance partner NCP in the party’s decision. Rangpur-4 constituency consists of Kaunia and Pirgachha upazilas. After independence, Awami League has won this constituency 6 times, Jatiya Party 4 times and BNP once. This time, NCP central member secretary Akhtar Hossain will contest the constituency. He is a resident of Madhupur area of ​​Kaunia and was a law student at Dhaka University. Earlier, Akhtar was the vice-president of the Students’ Rights Council, president and general secretary of the Dhaka University branch. He is also the founder of Democratic Student Power. This former social service secretary of DUCSU also had a big contribution in the July Movement. Maulana ATM Azam Khan is a tested leader in the field of politics. He is a member of the Central Majlish-e-Shura of Jamaat-e-Islami and is the Ameer of Rangpur Metropolitan. He is the vice-principal of the local Merura Islamia Dwimukhi Fazil (Degree) Madrasa. It is worth noting that Rangpur-4 constituency consists of Kaunia and Pirgachha upazilas. In 2018, Akhtar Hossain went on a solo hunger strike to protest the question leak of the admission test, which made him nationally known. Earlier, Akhtar Hossain was the vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and the president and general secretary of the organization’s Dhaka University branch. He was the founder of Democratic Student Power. Akhtar is not deterred by police torture and oppression. This is the first time this young politician is contesting the national parliament election. In this regard, Ameer Bazlur Rashid Mukul of Pirgachha Upazila branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami said, “We will work on behalf of Akhtar. InshaAllah.”
