Leekthough is ever-changing the style of music, making it remarkable in presentation. With his 1st Studio Debut album LUNA, composing cinematic atmospheres with sound, bringing powerful frequencies, melodic wordplay, and a collection of classic audios. Drawing inspiration from Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne, and Post Malone; the reverberation of his artistic nature is sure to be unique. Taking some time to ask Leekthough some questions was quite an intriguing experience; here’s what he had to say.
HipHipSince1987 conversed with Leekthough to get to know his vision.
What got you into music? Describe the wide dynamic range of your sound.
Leekthough: While in college I began to experiment with all sounds ranging from Trap, EDM, Pop, Dancehall, Afro Beat, and R&B; many genres besides hip-hop. Michael Jackson and Lil Wayne were the biggest influences on my artistry. My sound is built from anything I can vibe to.
What do you feel is the best song you’ve ever released and why?
Leekthough: Honestly, Astro & Fall For Me. Opposing vibes that just complement each other. Both went Platinum internationally, Fall For Me specifically hit Top 50 in Hong Kong. It was all motivation for me to keep furthering my vision; owning everything I do with my business.
What are some recent performances you have had?
Leekthough: I had the opportunity to perform eight times in Austin with my best friends Tribe Mafia at SXSW 2022. Made many new valuable connections while meeting some amazing people. The entire week was fun but tiring.
It appears you have not released any new music in about two and a half years; is anything new on the horizon?
Leekthough: My 1st Studio Debut album, LUNA, doesn’t have a release date yet. However, I will show you the cover after the interview, it’s very expressive and vibrant. Everything you see within the cover is not random, it all has a purpose. For example, the planet in the distance has a very significant implication.
The album has a crazy storyline within a cinematic universe that Soca Jones and I created with soundscapes and melodies. Every creation ranges from hype energetic dance hits to captivating melodic cinematic ambiances. However, the delay on LUNA comes down to mixing & mastering in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. I’m not going to lie, Soca and I had way too much fun crafting every song. You will be able to travel the world, the universe all with audio. The album will make people move and laugh, alongside getting to know me as an individual rather than just another artist.
Do you believe you could get any better as a musician? And if so, how would you achieve that?
Leekthough: Absolutely, there will always be room for advancement. My right-hand man Soca Jones has brought my range as an artist and creativity to another dimension. We work together like Quincy and Michael. From this point, it’s just pure elevation, because we’re only getting started.
Tell us about your work and passion outside of music.
Leekthough: I love to focus on building my business & entrepreneurship while learning new trades. Managing my career as an independent musician comes with its challenges, however, it’s completely worth it. Besides that, I play 2K and FIFA; enjoying time with my puppy as well.
What are you most looking forward to in 2022?
Leekthough: Accomplish more of my dreams and gain new listeners, I don’t ask for much. I’m healthy, and I can provide for myself and my puppy while doing what I genuinely love. I’m satisfied with life.
Why music? Describe your passion.
Leekthough: I’m not so much an idealist but do adhere to some idealistic principles in life. I believe that music is the most intense outlet for self-expression, whether you’re creating or simply listening. It is the foundation for mental, emotional, and spiritual exploration that I believe is an absolute necessity in life.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Leekthough: The best has yet to come. Nobody is prepared for what’s in store with LUNA, just know that something grand is on the way.
It is truly an admirable initiative that Leekthough has undertaken to not follow societal standards and instead walks his path out of whatever appeals to him.
