Learn About Some of The Common Valve Types

Valves have a variety of qualities, standards, and groups that might assist you in figuring out what they’re for and how well they’ll work. Valve designs are one of the most fundamental methods for sorting through the vast array of valves available and determining which ones are the best match for a project or process.

Common types of valves include:

Ball Type Valves

These valves, commonly paired with quick-acting 90-degree turn handles, employ a ball to regulate flow and enable easy on-off control. Users like them to be faster and easier to use than gate valves.

The Butterfly Valve

A butterfly valve is a quick and smart acting rotary motion valve with a small shape suited for limited places due to its wafer-type construction. This type of valve body comes in different shapes & sizes.

The Check Valve

This valve is used to avoid backflow, are often self-activated. They open on their own when media flows in the intended direction and close automatically if the flow reverses.

The Gate Valve

Gate valves, one of the most prevalent valve types, employ linear motion to start and stop the flow. These aren’t usually utilized for flow control. They were instead employed in completely open or fully closed configurations.

The Knife Gate Valve

The knife gate valve is commonly used to regulate the flow of solids-containing media. It has a thin gate controlled by linear action that may cut through materials and produce a seal. These valves are good for use with grease, oils, paper pulp, slurry, wastewater, and other media that would hinder the operation of other valve types.

Globe Type Valve

Globe type valves are generally used in control tasks that need modulation. T-body, Y-Pattern, and Angle body are the three most common body forms.

The Needle Valve

Needle valves derive their name from the point on a conical disc employed therein, typically used in small-diameter pipe systems where precise, accurate flow control is required.

Pinch Type Valve

To handle solid solids, slurries, and liquids containing suspended particles, pinch valves use linear motion. The medium is frequently isolated by an internal sleeve in pinch valves.

Plug Type Valve

These valves regulate flow with tapered cylindrical plugs and a quick-acting quarter-turn valve handle. They are dependable in high-pressure or high-temperature conditions.

Valve for Pressure Relief

These spring-automated valves help increase safety by assisting in restoring a system to the proper pressure during over-pressure situations.

The way a valve opens and shuts affects its overall effectiveness. Still, it also determines how much control you have over the flow and how rapidly it can function. Valves Manufacturers in India are usually classified into one of three groups;

  • Manual Valves: Handwheels, hand levels, gear wheels, or chains are used to activate these valves, often adjusted by hand.
  • Actuated Valves: These valves, frequently linked to electric motors, air or pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, or solenoids, enable remote control and automation for high-precision or large-scale applications.
  • Automatic Valves: Some valves open when a specified flow condition is reached. Two examples are checking valves that close during backflow or pressure release valves that open when an over-pressure condition is identified.
