Know how orbital wrapping machine works

The usage of a piece of plastic film, paper, or aluminium that is wrapped around a product or set of objects and bonded using heat, glue, or simple friction is a typical characteristic. The wrap itself does not have to completely encircle the pack; it might just be a band, a partial enclosure of the pack, or the product’s complete hermetic seal.

Machine for banding

A single reel of film or heat sealable paper up to 100mm wide is used by dedicated banding machines. The product to be wrapped is positioned and held stationary using an infeed conveyor or a pusher. The film or paper is then wrapped around the goods from one side to the other in a “arch.” After that, either heat or an ultrasonic weld is used to tighten and seal the film.

The procedure is slow, with a pack of 10 DVDs being processed at a rate of up to 25 products per minute. Because the film is wrapped around an arch and then tensioned before being sealed, this form of wrapping is ideal for a variety of product sizes because the film drew off is just enough to fit around the product. When changing sizes, no new parts are required.

Sleeve-wrapping apparatus

A sleeve wrapping machine employs one or two reels of film to enrobe a product or set of products with a loose piece of film that is subsequently shrunk tight by heat.

Process of sleeve wrapping

Sleeve wrappers typically use two film reels that are linked together to form a web. The wrapped product is fed through the web, and the film is then cut and sealed. A conveyor or a transfer mechanism is used to transport the product through the film. After the sleeve has been constructed around the product, it is placed in a heat shrink tunnel and firmly shrunk. Because a band of film is utilised, the product’s ends are exposed, exposing “bull’s eyes” or “bullet holes.” As a result, this packaging strategy is best suited to distribution or transportation style packs. It is feasible to entirely surround the pack by using directed airflow, but the ensuing noise is significant.

Machine for stretch banding

A stretch banding machine is a type of wrapping equipment that securely wraps a film band around a product or group of products. The material used is polyethene film with a thickness of 30 to 60 microns.

The stretch bander works in much the same way as a sleeve wrapping machine. The greatest difference is that before sealing, the film is pushed firmly around the product. This implies that following the wrap, the product is held tightly without the need for a shrink tunnel.
