Is Vaping Causing ED? Here is What to Know

According to the CDC, as of 2018, there are over 8 million adults in the U.S. who vape or use some sort of electronic cigarette. It’s been marketed over and over again as the healthier alternative to smoking regular cigarettes or cigars. However, the problem is that people see this as “oh hey, I can now sue this and not have to worry about health repercussions anymore”. It couldn’t be further from the truth though.

In fact, vaping could be a severe issue for males by affecting their sexual health. Which is what we are going to look at in this article. Is vaping causing ED and how could they be related? Let’s take a look!

What is Vaping

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the aerosable substance known as vapor. This can be done with the help of different vaping devices which are also known as e-cigarettes, vape pens, mods, or pod mods. Some people use these devices for smoking cessation while others use it for recreational purposes.

There are many different types of vaping devices available in the market and each one has its own set of features. The most basic type of device is the cig-a-like which looks like a traditional cigarette. These devices are USB rechargeable and they use cartridges filled with nicotine, propylene glycol, and flavorings. More advanced devices include box mods and mechanical mods which allow the user to control the power output, temperature, and airflow. These devices use refillable tanks and they can produce large clouds of vapor.

Vaping doesn’t require combustion and it is considered to be a less harmful alternative to smoking cigarettes. The popularity of vaping has increased in recent years because people are more aware of the health risks associated with smoking tobacco cigarettes.

Does Vaping Effect Your Health

Vaping has become a popular way to consume nicotine, especially among young people. Although many people believe that vaping is a safe alternative to smoking, the reality is that vaping can have serious health consequences.

A new study from the University of North Carolina has found that e-cigarettes are actually quite harmful to your health. The study found that the two primary ingredients in e-cigarettes, propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerin, are toxic to cells. Furthermore, the study found that the more ingredients an e-liquid has, the greater the toxicity. Given the potential health risks associated with e-cigarettes, it is important that people are aware of the dangers before using them.

Here are a few health risks that come from vaping:

  • Lung cancer and other lung issues
  • Brain damage
  • Gum and mouth damage
  • Heart issues

Although vaping may seem like a better option to smoking cigarettes, it still poses serious health issues.

Vaping & Erectile Dysfunction: What’s the Connection

After quite a bit of research and study, it’s now concluded that there is a direct connection between vaping and erectile dysfunction. Vaping, no matter what age you are, can lead to developing ED.

The study shows that men who vape are twice as likely to develop ED. It’s important to note that for this study, they factored in all of the other common causes related to ED:

“We excluded people with high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, which is a big reason for ED, and we excluded those with a history of smoking. We adjusted for all that and still we found a very strong and significant association between vaping and ED,” El Shahawy said.

Learning to deal with and treat erectile dysfunction is no joke, so understanding the risks of vaping and weighing in these serious consequences are important. If you are currently vaping, we highly recommend that you stop for your physical and sexual health!
