Is Now a Good Time to Move Office?

If you were planning to move offices before the Coronavirus Pandemic, then things may have changed a little – or a lot since then. The pandemic changed the way we live and work, and remote working has become a prominent feature of the ‘new normal’ working day, so you may be questioning whether you need a large city-based office. Alternatively, you may see an opportunity here to find a new location at this time, so here are some things to consider when making your decision.

What drives your business?

What is it that you need to make your business successful, and is its access to talent? A location where clients can easily get to you? Do you need to be near particular to suppliers? Can your business thrive online? Have a good look at your business culture and also factor in your customers and their needs.

How easy will it be to move?

This is something you would need to consider anyway, but even more so since there are more restrictions due to COVID-19. For example, will you need a lot of people in one place to help you move? Will you require professional movers or a skip from to get rid of your old furniture and other waste? Are there new features you need to include in a new place, such as more space so that people can be socially distant? Hand sanitizer stations? Are there enough electricity and internet points as you will likely need more video conferencing workspaces than you did before?

Consider the quality of life

If you are thinking about moving to a new office post-COVID-19 when you and your colleagues have been working from home for months, it’s important to consider the quality of life and culture available in the new location. People have been used to no commutes, spending more time with their families and enjoying flexible hours. While some are desperate to get back in the office, many others have thoroughly enjoyed this time and would like more of it. If your staff are quite young then perhaps access to a city location would be attractive for them, alternatively, if your business is made up of mostly parents then perhaps a location nearer to schools would be beneficial for them.

Is now a good time to move?

Ask yourself if it is the right time for your business to move. Consider your finances and future plans. Right now may be the perfect chance to capitalize on the decreased rental costs and seize the incentives different locations are offering businesses and residents to relocate. Equally, with all the chaos and upheaval that everyone has just been through, then perhaps now is the time to keep things as normal and familiar as you can. There are always going to be positives and negatives, and it might never feel like the perfect time to make a big change, but weigh up your pros and cons and decide what is best for you and your business.
