People are told that they are in a company for several years, get all the experience, contacts and knowledge and then resign and decide to develop their own company of the same type with the experience and knowledge acquired. Although there are also cases where the person was fired and not getting a job, they have no other option but to undertake. Most of the entrepreneurs in this category are by necessity . For example, I have known many advertisers, graphic designers, real estate or insurance brokers who do this.

Entrepreneurs by necessity

There are entrepreneurs who are forced to undertake, are the circumstances of not having a job or having been fired. Their need forces them to create their own business , even without intention (many continue the business while looking for work). In some cases they are not satisfied with their economic income within the company where they work (they do not earn enough to live) and they are forced to create an informal business. They are creative and intuitive people by nature, and the need gives them a new perspective on their professional life and gives them the ability to notice business opportunities that they did not see before. Usually their businesses do not land (they give them additional money but not enough) and when they find an opportunity to be employed again they take it without hesitation.

Entrepreneurs for survival

For me, this type of entrepreneur is different from necessity, because the necessity entrepreneur is a professional or recent graduate who finds no other way to earn money than by starting a business, but they stop doing business the moment they get a job. While the survival entrepreneur is more of a street vendor or does similar activities. He has no option to look for work because he does not have the necessary studies or the opportunities to look for a job.

His only alternative is to go out and sell on the street. Most of this type of entrepreneur never manages to get out of the cycle of scarcity in which he lives and the only way out for him is to transform his activity into a business, something that many do not achieve. While the entrepreneur out of necessity, many times he undertook momentarily until he got a job, and in some cases his venture became a profitable business.

Random Entrepreneurs

They are professionals who usually run into the business by chance, it is not something planned , but this does not mean that they do not have an idea or business concept. Normally they arise in new markets but with a high probability of growth. They can adapt quickly and seize the moment, they are also often entrepreneurs by necessity.

3. Entrepreneurs by activity

Here we classify entrepreneurs by the activity they are going to develop, they are very similar to entrepreneurs by environment but more specific.

Business entrepreneurs

They are those entrepreneurs whose experience is found in selling third-party products, in other words they are commercial sellers . Such as supermarkets, clothing stores, pharmacies, bookstores, etc. They tend to be entrepreneurs with traditional business models, so they take little risk.

Service entrepreneurs

Unlike commercial entrepreneurs, they offer services such as beauty salons, gyms, massage centers, movie rentals, etc. In most cases a location is required to conduct business.

Professional entrepreneurs

It is similar to the service entrepreneur, but offers specialized services such as photography, design, plumbing, law, etc. In some cases, they do not have an office or commercial place, and they are usually entrepreneurs who offer their services to companies . Many of them are digital nomads or freelance (independent worker) who offer micro jobs on specialized digital platforms such as Workman, Fiver, etc.

Social entrepreneurs

They are those who develop social activities seeking to improve the quality of life of people with limited resources or with some need, specific problem, social cause, etc. His motivation is not money, but to change the world, although there are also some who only seek recognition and fame. Generating non-profit organizations or non-governmental organizations. In general, this type of entrepreneur has the support of a businessman or high society, because they are relatives or close people.

Tech entrepreneurs

The best classification for companies or ventures that have to do exclusively with ideas based on new technologies , such as: social networks, electronic devices, technological services, etc. We may also include entrepreneurs who develop news portals or informative blogs in order to earn money by selling their content or advertising. This type of entrepreneur is characterized by taking risks, being little cautious and being experts in programming or computers like: Steve Jobs, Michaels Dell, Bill Gates, etc.

Producer entrepreneurs

This type of entrepreneurs has two types:

  1. Innovative people, usually inventors due to their inventive capacity or resources to generate new products to develop intellectual property patents and then sell them.
  2. People who produce product that are not so innovative but are widely consume, such as vegetable, livestock, furniture, handicrafts, etc. Many of these entrepreneur can be categorize within the large-scale or small-scale industry.

Specialist entrepreneurs

They have a technical professional profile, they are innovative and creative. They seek to improve processes, products, ideas , etc. Tend to be very individual, so they may not know how to work very well in a group (although it is not a rule). Are specialists in their field and are usually the best. In general, these types of entrepreneurs fail because businesses require knowledge of many fields, and because they do not know how to lead or work in a team , they need to work in a group with people who fill the lack of experience and knowledge that the specialist does not have. Those who are successful are those who find a partner who is in charge of administrative functions, sales, etc. while they take control of the implementation of the idea and their specialty.

4. Entrepreneurs by personality

Here we will classify entrepreneurs according to their talents or personality to do business.

Intuitive entrepreneurs

They are guide mainly by their instinct, this allow them to see thing that others cannot see. They are not cautious and tend to take many risks, their personality leads them to patiently endure any circumstance because their passion motivates them to continue. But that same excess of passion can lead them to make mistakes and make bad decisions . In some cases they love the thrill of risk more than making money or establishing a successful business idea.

Visionary entrepreneurs

They are not afraid of risk, and depending on their personality they can be cautious or not very cautious. Look for ideas or markets little explored. They can undertake both traditional and innovative businesses. The only problem is that they tend to jump from business idea to business idea . They never land their projects and start another without having finished the first.

Persuasive entrepreneurs

They have a great persuasion and influence other people such as collaborators, partners, investors, financiers, etc. They are great leaders and motivators with great self-esteem towards themselves and towards the idea, plan or project. On some occasion they are see as stubborn and/or abuse of power and manipulation . Few are sensible enough not to get drink on power.

Entrepreneurs explorers or trackers

They are professionals or people with a great ability to understand their environment and analyze it, they have an analytical and rational mind that allows them to detect errors or opportunities. They have a general and specific vision allowing them to discover things that others have not seen regardless of the market. Sometimes they overdo their analysis and caution, and end up doing nothing.

Conclusions about the types of entrepreneurs

If you are a businessman or entrepreneur. It would be convenient for you to create a culture of inter-entrepreneurs in your company. In order to impact the market. However if you are in the process of creating a venture. You will wonder which is the best type for you. Successful entrepreneurs usually have a little bit of everything , I mean mostly personality entrepreneurs. It is advisable to have vision, intuition, persuasion and the ability to explore new markets; It could also add adaptability innovation creativity and knowledge about many fields. Because the development of a company as such requires knowing administration, inventory.

unman resources, sales, marketing, knowledge of the market production. No entrepreneur knows everything, continuous education on different topics is the only thing that can guarantee success . Recognizing that we will possibly fail in our first attempts, but the experience gained should help us strengthen our weaknesses. In general entrepreneurs who fail is due to their lack of adaptation. And ability to learn from their mistakes to modify their knowledge. Way of thinking, acting and behaving before the circumstances and situations that made them fail.  If you want to be successful I give you 2 recommendations:

  1. Look for partners that fill your shortcomings or hire a person so that you can lead them. And they take care of the processes that you do not know about, such as administration sales, etc. Train yourself in soft skills (communication and emotional intelligence) and in managing people.
  2. Acquire the basic knowledge of mentality, evaluation of business ideas, advertising, sales, marketing, etc. Without the basic knowledge it is like a child who cannot read trying to teach another. Having the basic knowledge is the first step in the right direction.

Undertaking requires patience and a lot of willpower to get up after failing. No one can learn to walk without falling or tripping, no one learns to ride a bike without falling. No one learns to swim without swallowing water and no one will learn to undertake. Without making some mistakes and failures. It is the blows in life that teach us to live correctly.
