Igor Fishelev began his professional path with a strong technical foundation, graduating in physics from Ural State University and continuing postgraduate studies at the Institute of Metal Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His education laid the groundwork for a career defined by analytical thinking and a deep understanding of technology.
In 1991, during a period of sweeping economic change in Russia, Mr. Fishelev co-founded Link, one of the first joint-stock companies in the region. As Vice President, he was responsible for investments and foreign economic relations, navigating a rapidly evolving business environment while establishing new trade connections.
By 1994, he joined Mitsui & Co. Ltd., a major Japanese trading company, quickly rising to lead its regional office in Yekaterinburg. In this role, he coordinated complex international trade operations across multiple industrial sectors.
In 2000, Mr. Fishelev founded Unimatic, a company supplying industrial equipment and providing engineering services to the machine-building industry. Under his leadership, Unimatic expanded steadily, becoming a trusted supplier for Russian industrial enterprises. The company’s reach extended across the CIS, solidifying its position in the regional market.
In 2018, Igor Fishelev passed operational control and ownership of Unimatic to his son, Oleg, completing a planned generational transition. Since then, he has turned his focus toward mentoring and supporting emerging technology startups, sharing his experience to help cultivate innovation and drive the growth of the tech community.
