How to Remove a Background from an Image in PowerPoint

Date:

You don’t always have to seek a photo editing expert to remove a plain background. If you know how to use the MS office suite, you can learn how to wipe out a photo background utilizing PowerPoint.

By the way, there will be information on how to create a PowerPoint file. So, this is not for people only who know MS office apps thoroughly.

However, a free and efficient online background removal service can do the same job though! But you can’t use them unless you’re online.

Note that online background remover and PowerPoint- both will render you the same result. In some cases, PowerPoint performs better compared to online tools.

If you want to give PowerPoint a try to remove a background, check the steps below. Also, it will come in handy if you’re stuck offline someday.

There’re two ways you can remove a background from an image in PowerPoint

Process 1

Here is the first process.

Open a PowerPoint File

Already aware of this step? Then you can jump on to the next section. And, if you don’t know how to start, keep on reading.

There are 2 ways you can create a PowerPoint file. Check the following methods.

Method 1

Go to the start option of your computer. Next, type in PowerPoint; it will appear instantly. Next, when you click on the option, the interface of the PowerPoint application will open.

Then select the Blank Presentation. And, Voila!

Method 2

Right-click on an empty area. A window will pop up with a list of various commands.

Find the NEW option, and you’ll see an arrow beside that. If you follow the arrow, another list will appear. That will contain options for opening various files.

You need to find ‘Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation’ from the list. Once you click on the option, a file will be created automatically on the desktop.

Include an Image

Once you have the first slide, you need to import an image. To add an image, click on INSERT. Next, select PICTURE. Another window will appear to find the photo you want to edit.

So, find the photo from the folder you’ve can keep in and double click. The image will appear on the slide.

Format: Remove Background Command

Next, select the image by clicking on it once. After that, click on the REMOVE BACKGROUND. You will see the picture will be covered with a different color.

The color indicates the areas PowerPoint has detected to remove. Next, you click on the empty space around the slide. The background will be cleared in a blink!

But, there is one thing you should know. PowerPoint sometimes removes unwanted portions.

No worries, there is a solution! After clicking on REMOVE BACKGROUND, you will have 2 options for areas you would like to keep and remove.

For instance, if you select ‘Mark Areas to Keep,’ the cursor will become a green pen. After that, you can mark the areas you would like to keep.

There’ll be another option named ‘Mark Areas to Remove.’ Then a red pen will be there. With that, you select certain areas that are needed to be erased.

Sometimes, you won’t even have to have to do that. PowerPoint can guess the area itself for the images.

Process 2

I already talked about how to create a PowerPoint slide. Also, the instructions for opening an image on a PowerPoint are the same. Let’s move on to the next step.

Format: Color Command

First, select the picture and go to FORMAT. Next, find the COLOR command. After clicking, a dropdown menu will appear. Check at the bottom of that section and click SET TRANSPARENT COLOR.

Following that, a pen-like object will show up in the picture. With that pen, you click on the sections you want to remove. And, the unwanted background will be removed!

The Type of Images You Can Edit

There is specific kind of images that you can edit with PowerPoint—such as jpg and png. You can check the extension in the name of image files to know about the format or type of images.

Also, the simpler the image, the better. PowerPoint edits best when processing images with fewer details in the background.

Final Suggestions

These PowerPoint tools will work satisfactorily if you need to edit some product photos quickly. But, know that- it has limitations.

PowerPoint doesn’t work well if the background and the object you want to keep have the same color shades.

Also, it can’t remove the areas around the hair strands. But, it undoubtedly can do a good job with simple images.
