How to Regrout Tiles in the Bathroom?

While remodeling or renovating your bathroom, you go for choosing the best of tiles, cupboards, or accessories that match your theme. Most of the people still don’t get the look they desire after spending bucks on their bathroom renovation. This is because people ignore the minor details including grouts between tiles or the mess on your bathroom floor. Regrouting your tiles will give a neat and finished look to your bathroom making it more spacious, fresh, and clean. Regrouting is a budget-friendly option to renovate your luxury bathroom tiles and overall look when you don’t want to overspend on a bathroom renovation. It will also prevent further water damage to your bathroom.

The basic regrouting process is of 2 steps; the first is to remove the old messier grout and the second step is to apply new grout. Your old grout may be hard water stained giving your bathroom a dirtier look, hence firstly you need to remove that. You can initially try bleaching and a brush application to get rid of that old grout. If this does not work, you need to manually scrape down the old hardened grout.  Use a flat razor to remove the excess grout and then use hard water spot remover to give perfect finishing. Removing the old grout is a dusty, messy process hence it is a good idea to place old newspaper or plastic sheets around to avoid a mess.

Once you have removed the old grout, you need to clean the tiles thoroughly. For complete cleaning of tiles, you can use a vacuum which will take away all the dust and dirt residues. Then clean the tiles with a household surface cleaner or detergent and water mix. Now, it’s time to apply the new grout mixture. There is grout mix available in the market. If you have purchased a pre-mixed grout, then you are good to go, otherwise, you need to mi the grout as per as manufacturer’s instructions.

The most recommended grout mix for wet areas like the bathroom is the one with latex mix in it. Because latex provides water resistance, keeping your tiles and grout protected for a longer time. To apply the grout, use a float and spread the grout diagonally over the area. Be sure to hold the float at an angle of 30 degrees and push in between the tile for better grout application. Apply extra grout in the grout joints for a further smoother look.

Once the grout application is over, use the float again to remove the excess grout from tiles. This time use a rubber grout and now move it at a sharper angle diagonally to remove excessive grout.  Let the grout sit in place for about 10 minutes to dry or as per the manufacturer’s recommendation. Then with the help of a wet sponge remove the excess grout and clean your tiles. Keep repeating this procedure until your tiles are clean.

Now buff the tiles, to give a smoother look, and make sure to use a grout sealer to retain its durability.
