Snoring will cause heart disease such as heart attack. The normal response of the body to a lack of oxygen is to narrow the blood vessels. This is normal, but not always safe. The result can be a heart attack or a blockage of one of the heart’s channels. If this happens, blood clots can form in the heart, blocking blood flow and causing a heart attack or even death. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor your breathing patterns at night to prevent cardiac problems.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea

While there are some ways to prevent sleep apnea from causing heart disease, they are not as effective as preventing the underlying condition. While the disorder may cause symptoms of heart failure, treating it can reduce the risk of developing heart disease. If you are experiencing some of the symptoms of sleep apnea, your doctor may suggest that you consider undergoing an investigation for sleep apnea.

Snoring is the Risk Factor

The risk of a heart attack and stroke from snoring is far higher than from smoking, being overweight, or having high blood pressure. Even the vibrations of snoring can affect your carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain. In fact, a research team from the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit wants to conduct a long-term study on the snoring habit to determine whether it increases the risk of cardiovascular events in snorers.

What is Central Sleep Apnea

Central sleep apnea is an underlying cause of heart failure and can occur in almost half of the population. It occurs when the brain does not send the proper signals to the muscles to breathe, resulting in a pause in breathing during sleep. This type of sleep disorder is less common than obstructive sleep apnea and should not be mistaken for the same condition.

Treatments for Snoring

Heart attacks and cardiovascular conditions are common symptoms of snoring. The rhythmic sounds of snoring disrupt the rest of the respiratory cycle and can damage the heart. Snoring also causes narrowing of the blood vessels, increasing the flow of oxygen and blood to the heart. As the flow of blood increases, pressure on the vessels rises, causing heart attacks and chronic hypertension. Snoring can also lead to cardiovascular conditions, such as diabetes and obesity.

Signs of Heart Disease

Chronic snoring increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Research suggests that snoring is a more important risk factor than being overweight, smoking, or high in cholesterol. Snoring may also signal damage to the carotid arteries, which supply the brain with oxygen-rich blood. This increased blood flow can increase pressure inside the blood vessels. Over time, these fluctuations may lead to chronic hypertension or heart attack. Therefore, always monitor your breathing patterns while sleep to prevent heart problems.

Sleep Affects Your Heart

Most of us have experienced the negative effects of a poor night’s sleep before, such as fatigue, loss of concentration, headache and irritability. But are you also aware of the harmful impact of long-term poor sleep on your heart health? A poor sleep habit is linked to a host of cardiovascular risks such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and coronary artery disease. Inadequate sleep, usually less than 6 hours per night is especially hazardous. Talk to your doctor about your sleep condition and seek for diagnosis and treatment as advised by your doctor.
