The Router-Extender Connection is very simple to establish. There are four different methods to connect your Netgear extender to home router, which will be explained in this post one by one.
Router to Extender Connection: WPS
- Plug your extender into power outlet within the reach of the router.
- Locate the WPS button on the extender and press it once.
- WPS LED will start blinking the green light which means the extender is ready for connection.
- Now, push WPS button on the host router.
- Wait until the extender WPS LED turns solid Green which means the router and extender is connected.
To join the extender network, use your router’s SSID credentials because the extender is set in default settings.

- Select LOGIN to get into the interface dashboard. Check the visuals on the dashboard are showing the connection or not.
- If not, click the extender visual and interface will search for the local WiFi network. Select the network which you want to extend.
- Enter the password to connect the extender with the router network.
Router to Extender Connection: Nighthawk App
- Open and access Nighthawk app in your mobile phone. If you don’t have the app, download it from the Play Store or App Store.
- Log in to the Nighthawk app with MyNetegar account credentials. If don’t have created the account yet, then tap Sign Up button.
Enter your name, Email ID and tap Get Verification code. Enter the code which is sent to your email ID and get access to the app dashboard.
- Tap Range Extender and select the Manage option.
- Check if your extender is connected to the WiFi router.
- In case of not happening, tap the Connect option given in the Menu.
- The app will search the local area network, select router WiFi network which you want to extend.
- Enter the password to establish the connection between the router and extender.
Router to Extender Connection : Ethernet Cable
To connect your extender with the router, you have to use the Ethernet cable.
- Plug the Ethernet cable into the router’s LAN port.
- Plug other end of the cable to extender’s Ethernet port.
- Turn the extender and router on and connect a PC with extender’s network.
- Then, go into the browser and enter www.mywifiext.net or IP 192.168.1.250.
- Search it and login page will appear on the web browser.
- Enter the login username and password to access the interface.
In to the interface, check that the router is connected with the extender via Ethernet cable or not. If not check the cable is plugged properly in the router and extender ports.

How to Reset Netgear WiFi Extender?
To reset you need to locate the RESET button on the WiFi extender. Then use a paper pin or pen to press and hold the RESET button about 10 seconds. After that, wait until the device to show the Solid Green light on the Power LED.
